Hurry home to me my dearest Bea. You are on my thoughts all throughout the day... but at night, I lay beside you in the bed and feel your body next to mine. Thank you for being my wife. I miss you more than you will ever know. All my love and my life, your Joe
Joe, Love you dearly. Bea will be home with you soon and the world will be right. I know that Eric has met Hunter and is showing him around. Life is good. Love you,
Happy Birthday Eric! You are gone, but never forgotten. I have so many great memories of you. You are "other" third son. You and Hunter probably have met by now and are exchanging memories. Life? What is it? "Life is just a poor player who struts and frets his hour upon the stage and then is heard no more, It is a tale told by an idiot, full of sound and fury signifying nothing." Life is just a bunch of sound bites. So soon it is over. Will Michael Jackson sing with the angels or will he make them dance to Heavenly tunes in Heaven? So, you don't believe in all that? What a pity.. "Let man's reach exceed his grasp or what's a Heaven for?"
Happy Birthday Eric Nelson! You are still in our thoughts!
Barbra I envy you and Derek and Conor going north to be with Mama and Nina. I will be thinking of you and wish I was with you all. Love ya, your dad. Take pictures.
Good night my dearest Bea. One day less until you return to me. Hurry home. Next week you will be here with me again. I know you are having a good time so have fun and know I love you, always your Joe
Kurt, I can't check my e- mail. The notice says something about my not typing in the right stuff. If you are not busy, perhaps you can walk me through getting back on e- mail. Love, your Dad
Great videos of hunter and Karl.:)
My Bea us gone north. Have a good time, my love and tell everyone Hey for me. Buddy and I will hold down the fort till you get home honey. Buddy and I will go to walk with Kurt tomorrow morning. Kim and I went to Olive Garden for soup and salad today.Good as usual. It is so nice to have fun with our oldest son. Life is great.
Grandpa Joe has a facebook! Sign in and connect!
That's awesome Karl and very timely! Let me know when we can see it! kurtbowman@actnuts.com
Mr. Bowman/Webmaster Kurt. I have found some of the old youtube stuff, through much searching. I'm sure you will be happy to know that it will hopefully be going back up.
AS THE SORDID STORY UNWINDS, THERE WILL BE MORE AND MORE DIRT ON THE Sanford affair. The “nookie” will be one thing, but The Governor was AWOL from his post for 7 days, and that will cook his goose. Let this be a lesson to the young people. You cannot get away with anything. No one knew where the Governor was during that period, and even his staff was in the dark. His poor wife thought he was, “Up on the trail.” WOW! But, my children, is there anyone out there in cyberspace who can not, and should not, say, “There but for the grace of God, go I”? Jesus once said, “He who is without guilt, let him throw the first stone. “ How sad! What a shame! The poor kids… and the poor wife… and now, it is just one more nail in the coffin of the Republican Party. The holier than thou Democrats will tell everyone, over and over , “See! we have been telling you all along, that the Republicans are just pond scum." Thanks a lot Mark Sanford....What do you think?
ANOTHER REPUBLICAN “PRESIDENT WANNABE” GOES DOWN THE TUBE! WOW!!! Gov of S, Carolina has been screwing around for 8 years. So his aspirations, that might have led him to the Oval Office ends up in the oral office. He has had an affair! He cheated on his wife and his kids and all of those who loved him. He will pay the price for it but in the meanwhile what of those he hurt? Did he think he would get away with it? STUPID! He threw it all away for a piece. Huh? Is it that great? I think it is over rated, myself. But many have screwed their way into the end of a promising career. How many people has Gov. Sanford hurt? Too many to count. And, he had to go to Argentina to get some? He might have had a better piece at the governors mansion, like Clinton. If a Democrat gets caught with his zipper open, he gets a mead or he lies his way out of it. At any rate, society gives him a pass. How about all of the jerk- offs in the White House who were boffing girls in the oval office? In my lifetime it was Kennedy, and Clinton and who knows who else? WOW! To give all that up for a piece? I can’t imagine what all Sanford has given up? People? I will never understand any of them. More to follow. What do you think?
When you come to see me you can teach me how...looks complicated
Dad, Start your FACEBOOK account!!!!
Good morning Webmaster! I was thrilled this morning to see your response to my comments. It is good to know that at least you, read what I have to say. You are correct. The dead don’t care what is going on. But it is to the living that I write. I have but one opinion. There are others, but I rarely hear about them. We all need to be aware of what the president does and says. He is the most powerful person in the world and he can and does affect so much of our lives. Unfortunately so many people do not care about much that go’s on around them. Maybe what is on TV, or what the next movie is, or will it rain today? They seem to be unaware of what is going on around them and someone needs to awaken them. I have accepted that responsibility. Some day, when I too have joined the ranks of the dead, someone might wonder what I had to say during my lifetime. At least, as long as you keep Actnuts alive, my family will be able to say, the old man wrote this and he wrote that. He was many things, but he was not a cipher. So, I expose the president. I know you all are busy and must devote yourself to the mundane matters that are important to you. I have the time to watch and listen to evaluate the events that go on around the world. I try to warn you of what is going on that might affect you. Knowing that there is someone out there in cyberspace that listens is important to me. Otherwise, I am just whistling in the dark. So Webmaster, thank you for letting me know that at least you are not asleep at the switch. So as you say, the dead do not care what is going on. And therefore we must all let the living know, that we love them and are listening to them, because the ones we love will not be alive forever. What do you think? My love always, your only Dad
Everyone that died yesterday could care less about what Obama does or does not do.
DUMBO CONTINUES TO MAKE WEASEL WORDED, LISPY, WEAK WRISTED, WORDS, And as he waits and wonders what to do, the people of Iran are out in the streets risking their lives. Yes and dying. Dumbo is such a sick weak limp wrested leader. Leader? Come on, he just waits for things “to develop” before he makes a positive decision. He puts his finger (which one?) up into the air to test the breeze. If the dissents win, he may go with them, but if that slimy Ahmadinejad, (how in hell do you spell it?) leader of Iran wins, then dumbo will go with him. Can you imagine what dumbo would have done when the Japanese attacked Pearl Harbor? Thank goodness we had someone with balls back then. What a wuss dumbo is! During the election, dumbo said he would talk to anyone, including the dictator of Iran. Dumbo thinks his great personality can cause Iran to stop making nuclear weapons. Ha ha! what an egotistical jerk off! What amazes me is that there are still “so called intelligent people” who voted for dumbo, still think he is wonderful, amazing, able to leap over tall buildings, etc etc….I SUPPORT THE PRESIDENT, BUT I DO NOT APPROVE OF HIS POLICIES, AND THEREFORE, I HOPE HE FAILS. What do you think? Do you have an opinion? Am I right or do you disagree? Love your Dad
THE NEW NAME FOR ACORN IS NOW, COI FOR (COMMUNITY ORGANIZATION INTERNATIONAL!) If it were not for Acorn, dumbo would no doubt not have been elected to the presidency. You know what ACORN is, I know. But, for those of you who just watch the left wing media, ACORN is the group of community organizers that went out into the highways and byways of America .to sign up voters for Obama. ACORN is the shadow organization for Obama. Well these young members of ACORN found voters by the hundreds of thousands and some of them were Johnny Appleseed and Betty Davis and Johnny Cash and a host of other non- exist ant voters. Many were on the list of dead people. By the way, the members of ACORN were paid a fee for anyone who was signed up to vote for Obama. And so, voters were signed up by the ACORN members and they filled the ranks of voters for Obama and you know the rest of the story. So now, ACORN or COI has gone international and who knows what other underhanded crap they will accomplish in the future. So does this mean that they will sign up voters from outside of the country? Maybe Fidel Castro will be voting for Obama in the next election. No wonder dumbo is unwilling to criticize the Iran election. THOSE WHO LIVE IN GLASS HOUSES SHOULD NOT THROW STONES. What do you think?
It was wonderful to see everyone yesterday! Amber...get it girl.
I don’t call him king barrack any longer. He no longer fit’s the “king” description. Instead, I call him DUMBO. Dumbo cause he is so frigging stupid and he has big dumbo ears. So from now on, when you hear me say Dumbo, you know I am referring to the dumb- bo. I SUPPORT THE PRESIDENT, BUT I DO NOT APPROVE OF HIS POLITIES, AND SO, I HOPE AND PRAY THAT HE FAILS. What do you think? Love, your Dad

WE HUMANS YEARS TO BE FREE! It is a natural desire. We humans just want to be left alone. Get out of my face! Stop bugging me! What we see in Iran today has been repeated all over the world in the pages of history. You are too young to remember the Berlin Wall. So I will tell you about the slavery of the East German people. Can you imagine a wall to keep people in? Yet many East Germans risked their lives and often lost their lives to cross the wall. You might remember the Czech people who fought the Russian Bear to be free from the Russians who occupied their country. Do you remember the Tiananmen Square riots in China? Once more, men and women, yearning to be free, faced Chinese Army tanks and they went down to a stunning defeat in the terrible reaction of the Chinese Armed Forces. Now we have Iran and the rioting that is taking place before us on the TV. The people of Iran are no different than any other people. They want to be free. And now the people of Iran are rioting in the streets to protest what they know is an unfair election. Literally millions of Iranians are out on the streets, demonstrating. And, what do they want? They want to be free from the dictatorship that is a theocracy by a group of old bearded men. These despots have told the people of Iran to go back to their homes, “or there will be consequences!”. Do you remember the American Revolution? What if our ancestors had been cowards and bowed to the power of the English king? France was on our side and with the leadership of heroes like George Washington Lafayette and Von Stuben, we prevailed. And in the end, we have the wonderful nation that has brought freedom to the people. And so, what do we do about Iran? Do we give them hope that America is at best, on their side? Hell No! What does king barrack do about it? He is the most powerful man in the world, but he babbles onward, reading from his teleprompter, meaningless crap. He does not “want to meddle in the affairs of Iran. What a coward! What a wuss! He is pond scum. The American people voted for a worthless “community organizer“. He is a Chicago thug! I SUPPORT THE PRESIDENT, BUT I DO NOT APPROVE OF HIS POLICIES, AND THEREFORE, I HOPE HE FAILS. What do you think? Love, your Dad
Joe, Would you call Barbara Boxer a "Mam". I think if I had been the Gen. I would have said Yes Mam, and I would have mamed her all day.
Kurt, looks interesting! I started to join, but then other things took my attention. I miss you and look forward to seeing you this week end. Maybe you can help me to get involved. I love you, your Dad.

Thanks you everyone for your sweet words! The pictures will be there for a while but not forever. If you want a copy of a certain picture then you may want to order it. (or try to print it yourself!) :)
HE IS A WUSS, IN ADDITION TO ALL OF HIS OTHER FAULTS! Yes, king barrack is a coward. He is afraid to hear any dissent. He is loved by the alphabet channels so much that all they can broadcast is the nice things about barrack. They love him! They are “in the tank” for him! To them, barrack can do no wrong. So, he is afraid to visit FOX. Why is the most powerful man in the world frightened of dissent? It is because he a “wuss“ The “alphabet channels” should be reporting on the news. But they love him so much that everything they tell us is wonderful. To them, barrack is amazing! happy! wonderful. He is their ROCK STAR The king appears on the alphabet channels and they adore him. He means high ratings to them and they crave those ratings because they have nothing else to report on. What are the alphabet channels? Well it is all of them i.e. ABC, NBC, CBS, MSNBC, and by all means NPR. These sorry news stations are not fit to watch. But, I watch them from time to time to see what the “voices of the left are saying. They all say the same thing. Barrack is a superman. He can leap tall buildings in a single leap!!. The only way our nation can survive is if there is a free press. But if the free press only tells the people the good news, what they want to hear, then they are ill informed. So, why are the people so ignorant? No they can still read and write, but they are uninformed, and that is ignorant. However, the unvarnished news is available. It is fair and balanced. Do you watch FOX? Are you interested in the full story? If you watch the alphabet channels to get your news throughout your life, you too will be ignorant. Of course you are busy. Yes life is, SOS. But you have a responsibility to become informed. If you are ignorant, then you should not vote for you will not know the issues that are so important to the survival of our nation. So, my children, you have a responsibility to find out what your government is doing, right or wrong. So why is Barrack afraid of visiting FOX? In my humble opinion, it is because FOX is the only news source that will tell you both sides of the story. Do not be content with anything less. Our king is a “wuss” Goggle this, (the king has no clothes). and although I support him, I do not approve of his policies and so I HOPE HE FAILS! What do you think? (I can stand your dissent, I can stand your approval, but what I can’t stand is your indifference!) Love, your Dad
Another hot day in Tallahassee. Good job Joe to remember your Dad. I may never get though all the photo's Brittany and Matt. They are just great. I hope I can order some but I am not there yet. Maybe Nina can help me this weekend. Hope to see everyone on Sunday at the park. Love and Hugs. Good luck with the fight Mark. I don't think I could watch you do that.
Great entry dad.
Dearest Dad, I never got you a fathers day gift. It did not seem to be a big thing when I was a kid. I did not have any money and no way to buy a gift even if I has the money. Giving gifts to each other wasn’t something we did. Come to think of it, I never gave my Mom a Mothers day gift either. We didn’t say, “I love you,” either. I guess that was assumed. I never thought about love in the family sense. I just believed that my parents loved each other and I knew I loved them. The word, LOVE, was reserved for married people or young people (of the opposite gender) who loved each other. It was not something to flaunt. It was not something that we expressed in public. I guess we all must have thought that we knew we loved each other and it was not necessary to express it. Of course, I have come to think differently now. So, here it is fathers day, 2009 and I am just now thinking of what I would give you, Dad, that is if you were still alive. Most importantly, I want you to know that I love you, Dad. I want you to know that, more than anything else. I wish that I had been more vocal when I was a kid. I wish that I had been able to say, “I love you“. I have come to think that love is more important than anything else in life. And, saying, I love you! is important also, because we need to remind those we love that we do love them. And do it often. So, now, I want you to know that there isn’t much I can give you, except to tell you that I love you, Dad. You were an “absentee father” for most of my life. I don’t mean that you were not living at home. You didn’t run off as some fathers did. You were never unkind to me, as some fathers are. But, you spent most of your life, working. You must have been good at what you did, because you worked your way up to the highest position in the Millersburg Post Office. You were the Assistant Post Master. That is not like an Executive Officer in the Army. You were, the Assistant Postmaster, and you took your job seriously. I want you to know that I am proud of you and proud to call you my Dad. You worked for the people of Millersburg. You were a Public Servant. So I rarely saw you during the day. And in the evening, you spent most of your time up in your room, working on the vast amount of paperwork that the Post Office demanded. As a result, you did not teach me how to play sports. You did not take me fishing. You did not teach me how to hunt. Most of all those things, I learned from others. My friends and I spent most of our time out in the mountains and on the river. We kids fished the streams around Millersburg. We hiked in the mountains that surrounded Millersburg. I was either at school or delivering my news papers or out in the woods or on the river. I was not a “home boy“. So why do you mean so much to me? It is because there were still many times when you were a full time father to me. I owe my education to you and Mom. You saw to it that I had a formal education, and that is one of the most important things in my life. You were not a college graduate. In fact you only went as far as the eighth grade. And so, you pulled your self up by your boot straps, as people used to say back in the good old days about self made men. So now comes the real reason I am writing to you. I owe my political philosophy to you. You, like my Mom were a teacher. And both of you were good teachers. You taught your men how to do their job in the Post Office and you taught me in an easy yet effective manner. . Best of all, I remember going to the barbershop. You got your “hairs cut” several times a month. Looking sharp was part of your job as leader in the Post officer. You almost always took me with you when you got your hairs cut. At first I was too small to sit in the big barber chair. I had to sit on a board that the barber laid between the arm rests of the barber chair. I longed to be big enough to sit in the chair, as real men did. Then, as I grew taller, Neut, the Barber, took the board away and I was permitted to sit in the barber chair, as a real man did. Going to the barbershop was so important in my young life because it was the political form in Millersburg. Men from all professions came to get their hair cut. There were business men and farmers and educators and I guess every other walk of life. Most of time men went for a haircut was on Saturday morning because they worked during the week. Now when I was a kid, Politics were a man’s game. None of the women I knew were interested in politics and they did not talk about that subject. My Mom was apathetic when it came to politics, so my Dad had no one to talk politics with at home. During the Great Depression, Roosevelt (FDR) was the President of the United States and the men cussed and discussed what the President did or didn‘t do. It was not much different from the way people discuss politics today. Roosevelt did pretty much as Obama is doing today (that is, destroying the United States) and as a result, the Depression dragged on and on, until World War two. But back to my story. On Saturday mornings, the men of Millersburg filled the barbershop. They sat on the seats and they sat on the floor and the bench outside the barbershop and often they stood outside if there was no room inside. While they were waiting, this diversity of men most often discussed politics. And the arguments were hot and heavy and often resulted in fighting. At times, men might even go outside and “duke it out1“ I observed all this and I heard what the men said and I learned how to argue and I began to take sides. My dad did not openly discuss the President or the Administration. He was “in the Government” and he told me that it would not be proper for him to show his feelings as the other men did. After our hairs were cut, my Dad and I walked home along Center Street and those times are the most precious in my young life. it was then that Dad discussed politics with me. He never pushed his point of view and he always asked me how I thought about what the men in the barbershop were talking about. At first it was hard for me to understand the ebb and flow of the heated conversations. But as the time passed, the arguments became easier to understand. Dad pointed out the different points of view and guided me through the topics. As time went by I began to develop a philosophy of my own. I do not pretend to understand all the different points of view that were discussed so many years ago in the barbershop. I might add here that Newt, the barber, never took sides in the discussions. He had his job to do and he had a razor in his hand and that was enough to concentrate on. You might be interested to know that my Grandpa Ralph also “talked politics” and when I got where I felt I could discuss big subjects with him, we talked. He despised Harry Truman who was the President after FDR died. Grandpa Ralph was against just about anything and everything the Government did, and so I learned from experts. Then when I was in school and later in college, I learned more about government and soon I had formulated a philosophy of politics as well as a philosophy to life. So, Dad, I want to thank you for what you did for me. I learned from an expert, and by your easy way of teaching you enabled me to learn better. I want to say that I also learned how to be a leader from watching you, Dad, as you led your men in operation of the Post office. I believe you knew every phase of the postal operation and you taught your men how to do their job better and more efficiently. Dad, you were the kind of leader that made your men love you as well as respect you. I never heard you speak down to your men. You spoke softly, and yet you got your point across. Oh, those years passed too quickly and I grew up and my Dad became ill and soon he had to medically retire from the Post Office. And then he got worse and then one day he just quit talking and he never said another word after that. So Dad, on this Fathers day, I want you to know that I am so proud of you and I want to thank you for helping me to develop a political philosophy that has lasted all of my life. It must have been good for I have never changed my political philosophy. I also want to thank you, Dad, for helping me to develop a philosophy of life that has held me in good stead all of my life. And Dad, I want to thank you for helping me to be a better leader. I learned from you to know my job as an Army Officer and be able to set the example. I learned to express myself as a teacher and leader of men. Dad, You were a good father and I thank you for everything you did for me, and want you to know that I love you. Even after all these years, I still remember you and you are with me all of the time. That is my gift to you, Dad. Love always, your son, Joe

Brittany, the wedding pictures are totally awesome. WOW! I just breezed through them and must go back to examine each one more closely. I am so happy that you have become a member of our family. We have loved you from the very beginning and watched you and Matt as a couple and hoped that some day you two would wed. Now it is a fact and we hope that you two will have as many years together as we have had. You can do it! Your parents showed you the way. They did a great job of parenting and now you can carry on with them as a guide. We loved the wedding and now look forward to you settling down and going for even bigger and better things. You are a wonderful person and we welcome you and Matt into our home anytime. Love always, Grandpa
Brittany you look so beautiful!!! Matt so handsome.Love all the pictures.
Great Pictures Brittany! Will they remain there forever or should I copy them?
Hello! Here is the link for the wedding pictures. There are many good ones of all of you!I am so happy to be apart of your family now. http://memoriesbymako.com/gallery2/main.php?g2_itemId=24324&g2_GALLERYSID=4961be69f1912c8378126ca760c6a5d2
HAVE YOU WATCHED THE RIOTS IN IRAN? Once more, King Barrack is wrong. He does not want to “mess in the politics of Iran.” But, does he not know that the people of Iran are craving for freedom? Freedom from an oppressive government. With Barrack’s speech, the people of Iran now see that there is no one that will support them in overthrowing the theocracy they live in. The people of Iran love Americans. If there was any hint from “buckwheat” that America was “on their side” they might just be able to get rid of the nut case that rules Iran. Is “buckwheat” stupid? Or, perhaps he sees that the people of a nation that has a nut case in charge, might some day take to the streets also. If we had assisted in the overthrow of the government of NAZI Germany, who knows what would have happened that might have prevented WW2. Read history of the period prior to WW2 to find out why the Allies were so feckless, like our country is becoming, and looked the other way. After all, Hitler was just some funny nut case with a mustache. The nutcase in Iran today is worse than Hitler and more dangerous. A nuclear Iran is unthinkable. What do you think?
If we had it all to do over again, what would we say that we didn't say before? what would we do differently? Would we be better people? would we do a better job? would we get better grades in school? would we be able to love our loved ones better? Think about it. Tomorrow, you can do differently.
It is so nice to see the young people (Grandchildren) writing on Actnuts. You are “getting involved” Taking your rightful place in society and the family. You are beginning to be heard. Congratulations.! Your posts are of great interest to us old timers. You are good communicators, both written and oral, and this is a skill that not every one has. We know you are busy and it is good that you will take the time to write your thoughts here in the guest book. As you can see, many people write in the guest book. Many more read what is written and say nothing. Some only say hello and sign in. Others have something pithy to say. I know that there are many who read what is written here. You many not always agree with what is written here. That is part of life, and it is the give and take that makes a viable family. We welcome you to our family, which you are a part of. there are still many who seem timid and perhaps are afraid that no one would care what they have to say. (Assuming that they have something to say) But, on behalf of the Webmaster , Kurt, I invite all of the family to join us here in Actnuts. We are informal. There are few rules. We are not censured. You can say what you like except unwarranted profanity and vulgarity is not welcome. Looking forward to reading your posts, I love you all, your Dad and Grandpa
We are home from surgery center.Sarah took 2 oxycodone and went to bed.She looks beautiful.
Congratulations, Sarah! I know you are proud of your new body. You were beautiful before, and now, even more so. I know the next few days will not be easy, but, pain is part of life and it soon goes away. I am awaiting the pictures of the new you! I am so proud of you for you are taking charge of your life. However, don't forget your parents. You will always need Mom Barbra and Dad Derek. They have acquired great knowledge and common sense during their life time and they can give you wise advice, which we all need throughout our lives. You will be their little girl to them, even when you are a mother with your own children. I love you, write to me. it has been a long time since I heard from you. My love, your Grandpa
Matthew, your post was just wonderful. It was inspiring, and most of all, it was sincere. I love to see you write in the guest book. I hope that Brittany will write also. She is a member of our family and having her share her thoughts with the rest of us would be great. Matthew, I am looking forward to seeing more of your posts in the guestbook. And I also thank Kurt for providing us all, this wonderful form. Actnuts is the history of our lives. It is our family in words. The good the bad and the ugly! If we worry about whether or not our words are cool, or that we might misspell a word. or that someone might see what we wrote and worry about what they might think, then we will never say anything. We will be silent. What is a family? It is a group of people. The young and the middle ager’s and the old timers. Sounds mundane? but it is one of the greatest things in life. Communication….If we can share our thoughts, perhaps we are not alone. So, all of you, write on! Writing is good for the mind and can also act as a cleanser to the many bad and sad thoughts we have.. I love you all, Dad, Grandpa
good luck today Sarah. Kurt I think of you each day. actnuts is like a family history book. Lots of information and knowledge on it of the family. Thank you Kurt. Love you hugs
I am thinking of all of the family this morning. It makes me feel great that the family seems to get more and more connected with each other and it shows on actnuts. I love you all and what a good feeling to hear you all say "I love you" to each other. Life is still good with all the rocks out there to make us climb. I think it is great that all you young people are appreciating all the things you were taught by your parents. Tell them now how you feel and that will make them feel good. One never knows when there may not be a tomorrow. I love you all family and I also appreicate the love and support you show to your Father and me and to your grandparents.
Thank u everybody for your kind words and inspiration! There's good days and bad days! I love u all and value your support!!
That was great Matthew! Thanks for the inspiring words. I love u and miss u!!!
Matthew, it's really good to hear from you on actnuts. Hope you are doing okay!
As I work I find my mind drawn more and more to the dates of the silly pages I fill out, they vanish. Here we are mid year already. It can be scary to find out much of what my parents taught me about life is true. Time is short. It is beautiful to know what Hunter taught me, live life everyday, in every way. Kurt I know not a hand as devastating as you have been dealt in this world. But as you find it hard to sleep, as the moon rises out of the invisible and falls on your restless pillow please know we all lay awake and you are not alone. Your kindness and devotion to this simple guest book is as powerful as anything to help the healing. It shows in such a simply way the concrete our family has, how we should express love, remember the beauty in a field of flowers, and reminds us to notice the sunsets. To breathe deep with your eyes closed as you pass by a freshly mowed field. How every day is not just another day, but a gift. I believe that when the world gives us a gift it is given in the form of a problem. You are going to be so strong, and grow so big with love for life. Healing may be a process that ends with the end of our lives, but that is still only the beginning of a new chapter. Hunter is one with all of us, with the world and with you right now. When I see pictures of hunter and read the kind words your world offers it reminds me that love is real, not just in long distance commercials or the movies. It is real and written on the pages of your guest book and held by the memories of your heart. I love you and I wanted you to know that. Matthew
Kurt, your latest words about Hunter were beautiful. Sarah--GOOD LUCK TOMORROW!
Tomorrow is my big day everyone! Wish me luck, hope all goes well! I miss everyone and hope everyone is living each day as best as possible. Love and miss you hunter.
IF YOU PASSED AWAY TOMORROW, would your passing be like a ship that plows through the water and then sails on. Some, perhaps a little turbulence…. and then, no indication that you were ever there. Did you build a bridge? Did you write a book? What is your legacy? What is left behind you that will be remembered a month after you are gone? What is your purpose in life? Or do you even have a purpose in life? If we have a purpose, who gave us that purpose? If we have no purpose, we are just occupying space. Did we go to school and come out and the next half century we do, whatever . When we have gone as far as we are capable of going, we end our career and someone else gets the job. Some people think that we are just here. and all we do is take up space. Eat some pizza. Watch some TV, maybe make some kids, go to work some where. And when you don’t arrive at work some day, you are replaced by someone as good as you are, Maybe you get a medal or a watch and in a few weeks, (days) you are forgotten as though you never were there. Your replacement may be even better than you were or thought you were. What is your purpose? Do you have a mission? Do you have a reason to be? Are you doing something important, or do you just have a “job” and if you are ( or think you are) doing something important, who cares if you don’t come to work? As Socrates once said, “The unexamined life is not worth living.” What do you think?
We are proud of Erik. Kurt thanks for texting me about Erik's accomplishments. He usually lands on his feet. Erik is also amped! About Hunter, we will miss him always and think of him daily. He was a good son to you and a good citizen! Love you!
WHEN YOU HEAR THAT EVERYONE IS DOING IT, Remember that the people put Hitler into office. They supported him during most of the war, and the he had to kill himself to rid the German people of one of the world’s worst dictators. The Italian people loved Benito Mussolini. The war was almost over when a few partisans captured the Italian dictator and executed him by hanging him upside down along with his girlfriend. The people voted in FDR when our nation was free falling during The Great Depression. FDR did not resolve the economic problems of the country, he made them worse! The people voted in Jimmy Carter and he drove interest rates up to 18 %. Remember, “the people” are most always WRONG. And when they finally correct their mistakes, they are still wrong. All through history, the people have rarely been right. And now we come to today. No matter what king Barrack does, the people love him. He is Big Brother. I know that you hate to hear me say it but, I SUPPORT OUR PRESIDENT, BUT I HOPE HE FAILS!
But, I might add to my last post, When Jesus's mission here on earth was ended, it was just part of his most important job. It goes on even today. So, we may have bigger tasks ahead. Most of us balk at taking out the garbage or cooking dinner. We are such little people and how arrogant we are to think we can change the climate.
Beautiful memory Kurt! Remembering Hunter will ensure that Hunter will never be far away. AS long as one is remembered, they are not deceased, just absent for a while. Your memory is right on. It defines Hunter. That is him! A good analogy. I also believe that we are all put here to accomplish something. It may be great or small, but it is something. Some of us search for that purpose all of our lives. Some of us never find what we are looking for. Others find that purpose early in life. Then what? Is the reason for our existence ended? Perhaps! But then there may be more than a single purpose to our lives. We are all different. And, we are all alike.Regardless, when we meet another person, we are changed. They are changed. We have all been changed by our association with Hunter. He ACCOMPLISHED ONE OF HIS GOALS. If I might add an analogy, when Jesus accomplished his goal, his purpose in life was ended.
Good for you Erik. Grandma is proud of you even though I knew you would do good in whatever task to have to do. Come to see us. I guess we will see you on Father's Day if not before. Love you
I was very proud of erik today! He did great in finance!
I BELIEVE that I am not my brother’s keeper. I am not responsible for the sins of society. But, I am responsible for my own actions. Every action has an opposite reaction. Some reactions are unexpected, and they may often be detrimental to you and others.
Agree Kurt. Taking ones life is difficult, but living is more difficult! There must be many reasons to commit suicide but, as you say those who survive will never know the real reason. Why would any one take their own life? I cannot imagine ever doing such a terrible thing. Everyone will feel some guilt because they think that the person who killed themselves should have made their agony known, or expressed their intention to end it all. Survivors will think, "I am responsible for that person's act. But in truth it is just the one who did what they did. We are not responsible for the actions of others. But, we are responsible for our own actions.
I agree with you Kurt on sucide. I still cannot believe it and my heart aches many times a day and at night. love you
"While the person who commits suicide dies only once, the loved ones left behind may die a thousand deaths wondering why." - anonymous
Thanks Joe, We are just starting to look but I think she has pretty much made up her mind that she wants the Yaris. With her living so far away it is somewhat difficult to get things together on this. Like I said we are buying it for her and since she lives in a different state we really have to juggle this one. Love ya
Kathy, love our Yaris. It is like a sports car. Room is more than adequate. Comfort is outstanding. I got mist greeN, so I am 'GREEN"!!! HAHA DRIVE ONE AND YOU WILL BUY IT. lOVE, JOE
Joe,ow do you like the Yaris? We are thinking of buying one for Trish. You notice I said we are buying for her, not she is buying one. When do kids grow up and not need us. Hopefully NEVER! I do love my kids.
Ouch! That was a whack
There is a Taoist story of an old farmer who had worked his crops for many years. One day his horse ran away. Upon hearing the news, his neighbors came to visit. "Such bad luck," they said sympathetically. "Maybe," the farmer replied. The next morning the horse returned, bringing with it three other wild horses. "How wonderful," the neighbors exclaimed. "Maybe," replied the old man. The following day, his son tried to ride one of the untamed horses, was thrown, and broke his leg. The neighbors again came to offer their sympathy on his misfortune. "Maybe," answered the farmer. The day after, military officials came to the village to draft young men into the army. Seeing that the son's leg was broken, they passed him by. The neighbors congratulated the farmer on how well things had turned out. "Maybe," said the farmer.
Great pictures of New Orleans, Claude and Nina. What a fun town! They don't call it "The Big Easy" for nothing. The WW2 museum must have been awesome. I liked the one of the Dino going for you, Claude.
We can have better lives if we make up our minds to do so. The choice is ours. Wherever we go, there we are, as the people we have decided to be. We decide. That’s the revelation. We decide if we are going to live lives that are bitter or sweet. We decide, in every moment, to respond from peace or from fear. We decide.
That was beautiful
Well said! I love you my brother!
I wish I could mend the hole in your heart. I know that can never be. We will miss Hunter for ever and I know your life is forever altered. I love You!
HOW DO YOU ARGUE WITH A LIBERAL? Well, you don’t! Ever heard of mental masturbation? When you argue with a liberal, you are mentally masturbating. That is, wasting yourself off. First, we could call liberals, progressives. Sounds better doesn’t it? It is the same thing as calling rain, water. Liberals like to think of themselves as “progressives“. What is a progressive? They are for bigger government. If there is a chance to expand government, a bigger agency will be just fine. If there is some problem that needs resolved, appoint some bureaucrat and call them a czar, and then the libs “feel good“. They are for higher taxes. In the mind of a liberal, money resolves all problems. They love to give more money to the poor to improve their plight..(Remember, Jesus once said that “The poor we have with us always.”) Doesn’t matter that billions have been given to the poor for every reason imaginable, like food stamps, free housing and public education. Oh yes, by the way, libs like someone else to pay higher taxes. The nasty rich people for instance. The next ruse will be to give the poor, free health care. The law prevents the hospital emergency room from turning away anyone. Where is health care in the Constitution? The progressives approve of it so I guess we are going to have it. How much will it cost and what are the details? They are just details. Don’t ask! Progressives are for gun control. Guns are evil in the mind of a liberal. Guns kill. Doesn’t matter that the Second Amendment gives the people the “Right to keep and bear arms“. And Progressives are for a “woman’s right to choose“. Where is that in the Constitution? Liberals have no sense of humor. They can’t laugh at themselves. They do not think anything is funny, when they are the butt of a joke. It is OK to knock a Conservative. If you don’t know any progressives, just ask some questions of people and see what the reaction is. So, why argue with a liberal? It is a total waste of time and it will only piss you off. They are so naďve. They are uninformed. They do not want to learn the facts. They watch the same left- wing news sources all the time. Can you imagine the reaction if I asked them if they ever listened to RUSH? Instead, they watch the shows like, Letterman and Larry King Live, and CNN and CNBC and MSNBC and By all means, NPR. And they love Keith Doberman and Harry Sheerer and Diane Rhem, or Garrison Keller. These left wing “blabbers” eagerly seek the most egregious stories told by malcontents from every walk of life This is no big thing, for news is all bad. But there is no balance in their news. Why not watch FOX and get both sides of the story? What of I asked the libs if they ever, that is, EVER, watch FOX? Or read the columns written by Jonah Goldberg? So, now that you know all that, why argue with a Progressive? You can talk with them and that sometimes, is just like talking with a normal person. Talk about the weather if there is nothing else to talk abut. Or discuss their hobbies or well, what would you talk about with anyone? If you like people, just forget their politics and have some fun. Do you have to agree with everything someone else says or does? If you have to, you will have no one to associate with the rest of your life, and you would be a terribly boring person also. Then too, you might consider that your ideas and protestations may not always be perfect. You just might also be an arrogant person, with no reason to be. Life is too short to be pissed off all of the time. What do you think?
WORDS MEAN THINGS. BE CAREFUL OF WHAT YOU SAY AND HOW YOU SAY IT!
WORDS ARE LIKE ARROWS, AFTER THEY LEAVE THE BOW, THEY CANNOT BE RECALLED
TODAY SHOULD REMIND US THAT FREEDOM IS NOT FREE. IT IS PAID FOR BY THE BLOOD OF HEROES. Their sacrifice can never be repaid.
MILIONS OF AMERICANS DO NOT HAVE HEALTH CARE! No Kidding.. How many do not have a new car? Should the government (that is US ) give the poor a new car? (And it must be the car of their choice). Should the poor also get a house from the government? Well, that has already be tried. And look at what happened. Should we screw the poor? There are so many of them. Why not raise their taxes? Oh, you say, they do not pay taxes. So, we make them pay taxes. Tax their food and their clothes and their beer. Then raise their taxes. It would help pay off the huge debt that king barrack has imposed upon our grandchildren. While I am at it, I think we should tax minorities at a higher rate than the majority. Maybe then they will go back to where they came from.
Conor, If we were together today We might be watching Band Of Brothers. What a great story. I hope you will always love history, for the stories of the past show us the path to tomorrow, I hope that you will never have to defend your country. But, I know that, like your father, you would do it if you had to. I love you my dearest Conor, Grandma and I enjoyed your company. We love you and miss you. Although we are far apart, you will never be out of our thoughts. Always, your Grandpa
TODAY IS D- DAY THE 6TH OF JUNE. BACK IN 1944, I WAS JUST 14 YEARS OLD AND MY UNCLE WARREN WAS IN THE INVASION FORCE THAT LANDED ON OMAHA BEACH 65 years ago. The old veterans of that memorable day are remembering that event. Fewer and fewer are left. Those were the men and women of the Greatest Generation.
Bea, What a beautiful idea. It makes perfect sense.
something I think is worth sharing Nothing Can make up for the absence Of someone we love. And it would be wrong To try to find a substitute- We must simply hold out And see it thorough- That sounds very hard at first But at the same time It is a great consolation- For the gap-as long as It remains unfilled- Preserves the bond Between us- It is nonsense to day that God fills the gap- God does not fill it- But on the contrary Keeps it empty And so helps us to keep alive Our former communions With each other Even at the cost of pain
TOILET SEAT, UP OR DOWN! WHICH IS IT? Doesn’t matter! A person who says that does not care if the world ends next Monday at 0700. What do you mean it does not matter? How could anyone not care? It is UP! Of course it is, up. The family has mostly men. Real men! Who would want to go to the pot and find the damned seat down? Seat down! Well why not? that means there is a family filled with girls. It shows deference to the women in the family. It looks so nice. We had a fight over it, the boys lost and that is they way the seat ended up. Who cares? Shit!
Hello, Hunter, how happy you look. You loved music so much. You loved the guitar and it was my plan to give that one to you. So, now, I give it to you. It is yours. I will call it, Hunters guitar. You always picked it up and touched the strings. You began to play it and I could hear your love for music, When I pay that guitar,I will always feel your presence. You are always with me, in my heart and in my memories. Thank God that we were able to share a few years with you. You brightened up our lives with your smile.
Joe, Well I know how mad I was at the Dixie Chicks over their comments on Bush,, but this man who thinks he is King of the World is NOT my President!! He is a very dangerous person and we should all be very scared about the future. He will say or do anything. Very very scary Love ya like a fat kid loves cake.

I don't know how we can wait till Thanksgiving to see you. We just may have to get in the Yaris and head north one day. I love you my dearest Barbra, always your dad
Well my Kathy, I love you and you are our surrogate daughter. Our home is your home. We love to hear from you and feel so close to you you might live next door. Always, Joe
Joe, Love your views on politics and love. To me sometimes they get old but are pretty much not boring. Life is not boring thats for sure. You reminded me that Gary needs to take the trash out! Love ya
LOVE, THERE IS A LOT TO SAY ABOUT LOVE. Have you ever been in love? Have you ever loved someone? I think that we all are looking for love. But, when you find it, if you find it, love can be the saddest, worst time of your life. How can love make us sad? It is easy. When you love someone, it makes them powerful over you. After you find the one you love, and who loves you, your happiness is often dependant upon them. When you two are together, love is great. But when you are apart, love makes you sad, or unhappy or down, Well, you get the picture. Then, when you are with the one you love, you will not be happy all of the time. We are almost never, UP all of the time!, sometimes we are, Down. When you are UP, the one you love may not be up also. So, you are less happy. You are sad, because they are sad. You wish that they would be happy. But, you can’t make anyone happy. That is their responsibility. But often even they can‘t make themselves happy. So, you are going to be sad, even when you are with the most wonderful person in your life. Then there is boredom. Even when you are with the one you love, you get tired of doing the same damn thing. Yes, life is like that. You do the same thing day after day. It is SOS! You get up, go to work, come home watch TV then go to bed. Day after day. Years of that would make any one bored. So, when you get bored, you may look for someone else to brighten up your life. Some one who will tell you that you are great and your look good and you are fun to be with. Before long, you may be looking for someone else. Unless you are pretty damn strong, you may do something terrible that you will be forever sorry for. So, boredom can make you sad or mad, or BAD. Bad! Now there is a good word. When you are bad you want do something that will vent your spleen. You will say something, (it often takes just one word!) then your love says something you don’t like and before long, you are fighting with the one you love. How can this happen? We are never nice all of the time. It goes along with our mood. Get up one day and it is a bad day. Every thing goes bad. You are late for work. You get your ass chewed out by your boss. You have an accident on the way home. You come home and there your love is, just waiting to tell you the dishwasher is busted. In a few words, you two are in battle. You wish it didn’t happen. You don’t know what to do about it. It wasn’t your fault. But you better not say that. You go to bed mad. Then the years fly by and one day you see your love and they are old and wrinkled and they don’t say nice things to you anymore. And of course you are not old and you are not wrinkled or fat or bent over. You wish it wasn’t so, but unless you haven’t gotten a divorce by now, you and your love will get old. You are unhappy. You are sad. If you have your mid- life crisis, you are trying to put off old age. You may get a good looking, younger, more exciting, nicer person to liven up your life. You will have to have a sports car to look cool. Well, that won’t make you happy either. So, love can be a problem. You may wish that you had never gotten in love. But, you can’t live without it and you can’t live with it. What is the answer? There is no answer. We are human beings and we are imperfect. It is a miracle that the human race has lasted so long. Oh well, gotta’ run…. my love is calling me. The grass needs cut! Joseph R Bowman, 4 Jun 09
Kurt, can you put my political philosophy on my web site?....Know you are busy so whenever.
POLITICAL PHILOSOPHY of JOSEPH R BOWMAN This is my political philosophy. Winston Churchill once said that, “If you are not a liberal at twenty, you have no heart. But if you are 40 and not a conservative, you have no brain. Over the past seventy years, I have at times, been a liberal, and I have been a Democrat and a Republican, and an Independent. But most of the time, I am a Conservative, first last and always. When I was young, I heard the Conservative view point from my Dad and my Grandpa. However, as I grew older and attended college, for a very brief period, I flirted with the liberal viewpoint. College Professors are by nature, liberal and they foist their liberal viewpoint upon their students. The plight of the downtrodden was a concern to me. I did not see that the poor and unwashed masses were that way, because it was mainly their fault. I came to see that the way to handle the problem of the poor was to educate them and give them a chance to get out of their rut. But, I learned that is not the approach of the liberals, who would rather give the poor a “hand out” and see them remain in their hole in the ground. Thus they are dependent upon government for their food and housing. Then, when I became an adult, I briefly became a Democrat. I even voted for Jimmy carter. For that, I am ashamed, because Jimmy is the worst president we have ever had. As I grew more mature, I voted Republican. Ronald Regan was my idea of what a real president should be. But, more recently, I have became an Independent. The Republican party has become a feckless group of Poles that no longer deserves my vote. I am now a hard- corps Conservative, and I shall always be one for the rest of my life. William F. Buckley Jr. is my hero. He caused me to harden my political philosophy into what it is today and I have not changed from it. I believe that politics is in everything we do in life. I believe that “The unexamined life is not worth living.” as Socrates once said. And so, I am greatly interested in politics. I think that political philosophy, if you have one, dictates who our friends are and often our entertainment. We tend to associate with others who we share our philosophy with. Who enjoys being with those we most often disagree with? Just as I would not associate with those who smoke. I would not associate with those who are liberal. Yes, I have many people I know that are liberal. However, they are not my friends and I listen to them only to find out the latest liberal thought. Who enjoys being entertained by programs on the radio and television when we do not agree with the content or thrust of the programs? Yes, I listen to the “voices of the left“ NPR and the other alphabet channels are interesting only in that they tell me what liberal entertainment is. I sometimes watch TV and listen to the radio which are liberal in content. Hence, I am not afraid to hear the “other side of the problem“. In my opinion, the way we believe is the result of our training and our environment and of course, our education. Hang out with liberals and you are probably a liberal yourself. Hang out with Conservatives and you are most likely a Conservative. I believe that politics is more often a man’s game. There are some women who are interested in Politics. But most women are apathetic toward politics. I believe that our politics affects much of what we do in our lives. We associate with those like us. And so, politics often forms our friendships. If you are a “Noels fan“, it is hard to not hope that the opposing team looses. Remember, politics is a “blood sport“. It is hard to be sympathetic towards an adversary. I believe in smaller government. Establishing another governmental agency to solve a problem is a waste of time and my money. The private sector will resolve the problem, if it can be resolved. I am a firm believer in the strict interpretation of The United States Constitution. Some liberal judge on the Supreme Court should not use “empathy” to determine the merits of the law. Thus, I believe that one of the most important responsibilities of the President of the United States is to appoint “strict constructionist judges” to the Supreme Court. WE ARE A NATION OF Laws and those who would change the laws to adapt to the changing social mores are anathema. I believe in “Laisssez faire” approach that government should take towards commerce. We are a commercial nation and the business of the United States is business. I believe in religious freedom. My ancestors came to this country to escape religious persecution and governmental interference in our religious beliefs is just plain wrong. I firmly believe in the First Amendment. So, when the government interferes in freedom of speech, it is wrong. I believe that the fist and most important duty of the President is to protect and defend the Constitution and the people of the United States. I believe in the Second Amendment. The people have a Right to keep and bear arms and the government should not interfere in that right. I am pro life. Killing the unborn is murder. This is my Political Philosophy. Joseph R Bowman
Kurt, most of what I send you comes back as undeliverable. I sent Hunters picture.
I love the Bowman family
When you depart on your journey, be sure to say "good bye." And add,I LOVE YOU! We do not know what will happen to us or to those we love.
LIFE IS A JOURNEY, NOT A DESTINATION.
Hope all are having a great week. I am getting to be a indoor gal. Don't like the heat. Amber I need your new address. I am busy getting the address info up to date. Also getting the pages in the books. Boy that is a job and going slow. I guess I am not as fast as I use to be. Love and Hugs, Grandma Bea
Today, we, the people of the UNITED STATES are now co- owners of the company previously known as GM. I am eagerly looking forward to the arrival of the Barrack-o- mobile. What is next? we are no co co owners of the mortgage industry and the insurance industry and now the auto industry. Will we also own the medical industry? I DO NOT APPROVE OF WHAT KING BARRACK IS DOING AND I HOPE HE FAILS IN ALL OF IT. I AM A RIGHT WING RADICAL.
Thank you for a great house warming on Sunday. The burgers were the best. You both are good hosts. I love your house. I could live there. We should met each week somewhere to enjoy each others company. Love Always, your Dad
And, I love you also, always your Dad
I have only meet a few of the family since hunters death but all of you are so lucky to have a family as close as you all are. I cant even think as to what Kurt is feeling on a daily basis but i do know the strength you have. I do think of all of you everyday of my life and ask everyday when i talk to my dear Jessica how everyone is doing. I do want to thank all the Bowman family for making Jessica and Kyndal so welcome in this wonderful family as i am so far away. Keep your heads up and spirits hi as you know Hunter would want that of all of you.
