On Monday 30 Jun 08, PBS ( Everything and everything from the LEFT) will present its program about WW 2. Another example of the usual liberal crap from this trashy "news" outfit. Nasty ol' USA had to kill people to win the war. Imagine that!! Boom Boom It makes me so pissed to think that even one of my tax dollars goes to this liberal "news" station. They need to stick to Pararie Home Companion. And kiddy cartoons. UGH puke
Hello Bowman family, How are you? Things are good here. Chris and Leigh Ann have finally moved out of our guest house into their own house (right next to where they have been living). Now I am cleaning, spackling, sanding and painting. In other words re-claiming my guest house. Yesterday I took all the paneling off the living room walls. Gary is just shaking his head. The baby is due any time now so they are really getting excited. I am not sure Chris will make it through the delivery. It should be interesting. Take care and keep in touch. Joe, I know you are missing Bea awhile she is up north. I hope you are feeling better.
Well, I guess Buddy and I will just have to make it alone. Have a good time, my dearest wife. I envy you being with Nina and Barbra and especially Conor. Buddy and I have a full agenda over the next few days... so, if we don't always answer the cell, put your message in email or Actnuts. I will be here waiting for you on Monday. Say hey to all and take pictures. Remember, open- shade takes the best picture and flash often spoils the shot. I love you my Bea and am here to tell you I will always be with you. Your Joe
I thought I would remind everyone, that Nina and I are leaving in the morning to go to Pa. My oldest sister is having her 87th birthday which we will help her celebrate. We will return Monday late afternoon. You all take care and be good while I am gone. Barbra and Conor are also going to be in Pa.a couple of days so we are pleased about that. I am sure the time will go fast and I hope we don't have any problems with the airlines. Traveling can be hectic in these times. I will have a wheelchair to take me from one place to another. That will make be smile! You all know that I love you.
Dearest Family, pain is no stranger to me. I have had to suffer just about every kind of pain over my lifetime and somehow survived. But, on Fathers Day, 08, I had the worst pain I have ever had. I got up anticipating the annual Fathers Day party at the Shipley’s. I had been having mild to severe pain when I urinated for several days before, as a result of my “Rotor Rooter” prostate surgery. But on Fathers Day, I crossed the line. I could not urinate. I tried everything, and no result. I even went on- line and read all about my symptoms. So I knew what to expect. NOT! The pain grew in intensity as the morning passed. Before long, I was unable to endure the pain. I cried and I cursed and at last, I prayed. I begged God to take the pain away. I also called on His Son. I was ready to roll on the ground. Mama finally got through to the on- call urologist, Dr Tran. He told us to get to the ER. ASAP. We were on the way in a few seconds. From then on, my pain was so bad that I was unable to stand it. The medics always ask you what the pain is from one to ten. Mine was well past twenty. The next few minutes are just a blur. I don’t remember what happened. I guess, at last an ER doctor came on the scene and he tried to put in a catheter to relieve the problem. Sorry! He was unable to insert the catheter because he said there was an obstruction. Of course the ER did not have a diolater, so off someone went to get that and an urologist (Dr Tran) who could insert the catheter. When the urologist finally arrived, he said I would have to undergo surgery immediately. So they stuck me on a stretcher and off I went to the OR. You can’t imagine the next few hours. I had gone beyond pain. I cried and ended up whimpering like an animal. Now, I have known atheists and agnostics and Christians and members of almost every faith, sect or religion. I have seen men who had traumatic amputations. I have seen almost every reaction to pain. But in the end, they all begged God to help them. No one ever called to WICCA or cried out and proclaim that they were non- believers and did not need God’s assistance. But, anyway, I knew the right words and I begged God to help me or kill me. Guess what, God did help me and before the message went up and came back, the anthologist arrived and knocked me out. The next thing, I awoke in the recovery room and the pain was gone and I could pee. So I tell you, if you do not believe in God, wise up and hope that you never need Him. Because in the end, when the pain is beyond Twenty, I promise you will beg God to be on your side. DEFINITIONS: An agnostic is one who is not sure what they believe and has never experienced pain beyond a ten. Since agnostics do not believe in something, they believe in anything. An atheist is one who has never experienced pain and thinks it is smart to say they do not believe in God. and do not need God’s help. I pity them for their day is coming Note: Most everyone goes through those stages but as the pain intensifies, they finally weaken and get smart.
Dearest Family, Why does Grandpa like Germans so much? Conor asked that question of his Mom. I don’t know if Barbra’s answer satisfied her big boy. So, here is the answer. Back in the Thirties, when I was Conor’s age, most Americans lived on the farm or in small farm communities. People who spoke the same language or who had lived in a foreign country before they came to the USA tended to live close to each other. I lived in Millersburg, Pennsylvania with a population of less than three thousand people. There were no Jews and no Catholics. There were no blacks or any other people from other ethnic origins. All of us were Germans. Today, some will call them, Pennsylvania Dutch. In Millersburg, most church services were in German. If you went to the meat market, you spoke German. When the farmers came to sell their vegetables, they spoke German. Most adults spoke German. Most children spoke German. I spoke German. My Dad spoke German and the people, who came to do business at the Post Office, where my Dad was Assistant Post Master, spoke German. My Dad did not usually speak German at home, perhaps in an effort to keep me from developing an accent. But when so many people around me spoke German, it was hard not to speak with a “Pennsylvania Dutch accent”. If you go to that part of Pennsylvania, even today, you will hear a distinct accent. My Grandparents on both my Mother and Father’s side of the family were German. Our real name was Bauman which was changed to Bowman for one reason or the other. You might call us German- Americans. My Grandmother was a Holtzmann. Before she married, her name was Enterline. My Mom’s Dad was Shontz and my Mother’s Mom’s name was, Shultz. And so, I was surrounded by Germans for all of my childhood life. My Grandma Agnes Holtzmann Bowman spoke and wrote fluent, Hoch Deutsch, which was High German or the language of the educated class. I learned the old German folk legends such as Siegfried and The Ring of the Nibelungen, from my Grandma Bowman. She taught me songs in German and when she lived with us, I often heard her speak German with her relatives and friends. And so, it was natural that I often spoke in German with my friends. When I had a paper route, most of my customers spoke German and I answered them in German. At the annual family reunions, German was the language that was spoken. If you are interested in learning how our family escaped from the old World, along the Rhine River Valley, go to my site on Actnuts to see how our ancestors from the Palatinate came to Powell’s Valley and then to Millersburg. Until the Second World War, German’s were not feared and despised by Americans. Of course, all that changed during and after World War Two. But, by then, I had always thought that Germany, (Deutchland) was the greatest place on earth; except of course for the United States. After the end of World War Two, I entered the Army, and was assigned to Austria and then Germany. I spoke with an accent similar to that was spoken in Bavaria, and so, I was easily accepted by the people. Yes Conor, I do like Germany. I am proud of my heritage. Will the Bowman’s of the future know their history? I wonder. Love, your Dad
Five minutes before Tim Russert had his massive heart attack, was he thinking, I need to spend more time at the office. What if you had just five minutes to live, what would you want to tell your family? Goodbye? I love you? Sorry, etc. Wish I had spent more time with you.
George Carlin. 71, Taps, 23 Jun 2008. Love him or hate him, he changed communication. Free speech, The First Amendment to The United States Constitution. if you say it can't be said, because it is offensive, what is next? If obama becomes president, you can forget about free speech.
Amber, great apartment. I could live there. Will we get a walk through? Love GP
Hello Mr Bowman!! Love the way you have your website set up now. I can't believe how much your kids have grown and if you were to see mine you'd probably say the same thing. Victoria made the honor 3 times this past school year and Emily starts Kindergarten in the fall. WOW! Now I'm starting to feel old. Tell Mark that I miss seeing his smiling face and to come by Saturn sometime to say hi to his old cashier friend! LOL... I know I'm a dork! But at least I can admit it. Hope things are going well for you at the new store. Which is friggin awesome by the way! See ya later alligator. =0)~~
Dear John, I can address you in this informal manner because I am older than you are. I was born in Millersburg, Pa in 30 Oct, 1930. And, I was always taught that the senior is permitted to address the junior informally. I am writing to you to tell you that I believe you are doing the correct thing by admitting that you are willing to explore the idea of drilling for oil in ANWR. I learned today that you are open to that proposition. I also learned that you are open to drilling for oil off the Continental Shelf. These two new propositions outlined by you, make me more able vote for you as President of the United States. For sometime I have considered that you are just another RINO. You know what that means. Your stance on so many positions as a Senator, have made you more of a liberal in my estimation, than a Conservative. You may think that being thought of as a maverick makes you attractive in an election for President; however, I believe that you must appeal to a wide range of Conservatives if you are to become the next President. So, your change in being open to drilling for more oil shows me that you may still have some value in the next election. I would never for your opponent but it is up top you to show the Conservatives that you are one of us. The United States runs on oil, and, the law of Supply And Demand applies to the problem of oil dependency that is going to destroy us unless it is solved. Some say that drilling in those areas would not solve our dependency on foreign oil. But they are just putting off the inevitable. So, we must drill now and drill here and save money. Good luck in your quest to become the President. Call or write. Joseph R Bowman, in Tallahassee. Florida.
I just heard from Nina mom is ok. In all of my years I have never ever thought of my mom as fragile. She has great strength, extraordinairy common sense and beautiful inside and out. Not to mention she was a great baby maker!
At last, Christ and McCain are saying it just might not be wrong to drill for oil off the continental shelf. (not ANWR) They just got it. I knew that the price of a gallon of gas would make the people wise up and politicians will give the people anything they want. Where the hell have these morons been? Are they flip floppers or did they just wake up? And these are our leaders? Remember, I thoroughly believe that 75% or more of the Americans are ignorant, stupid and worse. How do I prove my point? well 50% do not vote so they do not deserve any of the benefits of our way of life. Then 20% vote democrat. They are the most ignorat, stupid Americans. They can add subtraact and divide and probably write their name. But, can you imagine anyone so stupid that they would vote for obama? No need to try to convince them to not vote for that totally ignorant boy. Anyone that stupid cannot be convinced that 2=2=4. Then there are 20% who vote Republican. Ask em why and they probably don't know. If they would vote for the Republican nominee, they are dull bulbs. OK I guess I am one of them. But, it will make me ill to vote for John. He is a RINO. Maybe he is getting brighter with the passage of time so perhaps there is hope. There are not many Americans left. I guess the independants are part of the puzzle. They don't know who to vote for so they shouLd just stay home on Election Day. Can our great Nation survive such terrible odds? I used to have great hope for us... but that was the Greatest Generation. Oh well, I am a shortimer so it is not my problem
We often forget how important simple little things are. It is not fame nor fotune that is as important as being able to pee.
Get well soon dad! We missed you at the Shipley's get together! We love you!
Just ignore it and after a while, it will not be there when you want it. Love is no different. It must be nurished with kind words, tenderness and good deeds or will wither and die. Don't depend upon love to survive all the storms of life. Look at the statistics. 50% or more fail. One day your bed may be empty.
One death is a tragedy. A million deaths are just a statistic... Jos. Stalin... Tim Russert, Taps 13 Jun 2008
Dearest Family, There is an old saying that I have remembered over the years. It is, FAMILIARITY BREEDS CONTEMPT. It is attributed to the Greek philosopher Aesop. You know Aesop’s fables? I have often thought about what those words mean. I frequently heard my Dad use those words. He did not explain the words because that was up to me. My Dad was in the public eye in Millersburg and I guess he had some “interesting experiences” in his life. The public can be pretty nasty and they sometimes take out their “nastiness” on public officials who serve them. So, I have often associated the words of that saying with how we view people. Familiarity breeds contempt? Does that mean that if you are familiar with people you can see their faults more easily? And so, we see how fragile people are, we have contempt for them? We are not very close with people these days. We are too busy. We have to hurry on and accomplish something important, you know, our 15 minutes of fame? I wonder if it was that way back when my Dad still lived, or am I looking through rose colored glasses? But as time has passed, I have come to the position that familiarity can make us more understanding of others. My Dad was a country gentleman and he rarely had bad things to say of others. He did not tell me how to think, but he taught me to think. He was not sarcastic and he didn’t reply in caustic words when someone treated him shabbily. So now, after I have used and examined and tried to understand those words about familiarity and contempt, I think that rather than breeding contempt for another when we know them more familiarly, I think that it can make us love them more. So this Father’s Day 2008, I know that I love my Dad even more than I did when he was alive, because I have come to understand him more than I did as a kid. He taught me how to examine life and be more understanding of the faults of others. And, the more familiar I am with those I love it just makes me love them more. Do they have faults? Probably they do. Is anyone perfect? Love, your Dad
FATHERS DAY Every day is Fathers Day, BUT, Some day’s he’s hard to love. He often makes us angry, and Then, Lightening strikes us from above. But, he brings home the money, Which the family likes to spend. And, he works so hard each day, So, sometimes he’s our best friend. Well, he’s the captain of our ship, He must always set the course. And, he has to give the orders. And sometimes he must use force. I guess we’ll just have to forgive him, And honor him in this simple way, And maybe even love him, just a little, On this very special Fathers Day. . By Joseph R Bowman 15 June, 2008 I fondly dedicate this poem, To all the fathers in our family. I know how hard they work. I know what stress and strain, Which they endure every day, And I can see the toll, That great responsibility takes. So, today is the one day out of The 365 days a year, when we Should, honor our Fathers. JRB

You’ll Never Walk Alone From Carousel When you walk through a storm, Keep your chin up high And don’t be afraid of the dark At the end of the storm, Is a golden sky, And the sweet silver song of the lark Walk on through the wind, Walk on through the rain, Though your dreams be tossed and blown. Walk on, walk on, With hope in your heart, And you’ll never walk alone, You’ll never walk alone.
Kurt, please take pictures of your apartment
Kurt, good to talk with you last evening. You sounded tired. No wonder, with 14 hour days. But no one who is successful can work 8-5. I am so proud of your record. I am looking forward to seeing you this weekend.
Congrats to you Amber!!! Love,Barbra
Amber: We are all very proud of you with graduating high school and doing so with many honors. Keep your chin up and continue forward. It is the mark of ones character of what they do when life knocks them down and whether or not they get up and sally forth.
