On Tuesday 29 Jan 08, we lost. We lost big! And, the left, won. Yes, there are “so called conservatives” on the left. We call them, RINO’s or Republicans in name only. They are just as left in their thinking and actions as democrats are on their left. These RINO’s are what remains of many Republicans who don’t know why they vote or who they vote for. They sit on the fence. They are also some members of the Military who would vote for anyone, as long as it is some X- military. These RINO’s are uncommitted to conservatism. So, in my opinion, a RINO won the primary here in Florida. That person is no Conservative. If you google him, you will see a person who has spent most of his life in the Senate. He is just another desk commando. OK he is a true American hero. But that does not give anyone the skill or Conservative philosophy to be President. Can you think of any thing positive the Senate has done in the past 25 years? It is just a debating society. Unfortunately, our RINO winner here in Florida takes a host of Electoral College delegates with him (winner takes all). Some people say, “He is electable.” Others say that he can beat Clinton. By the way, can you imagine anyone voting for Clinton or Obama for that matter? How about President Hillary? or President Obama? OMG! Well, is our RINO much better? You might as well vote for Clinton and then we will all see what a worthless President she will be. Would she be much better than her husband was? He will be the real President anyway and she will dance to his tune. So, we still have Super Tuesday, next month, and perhaps Mitt can fire up enough real Conservatives to get himself nominated in November. If not, by chance our RINO may beat the democrat and win in 08. If so, then you will see what a RINO will do with the country. It will be your problem. Love Dad D

BAH, BAH, BAH. The economy is bad! It has tanked. A recession is coming. Well, maybe even a depression. BAH, BAH. CRAP! You know what FDR said? Well you don’t, because you were not around back then. Well, he said, “All we have to fear is fear itself.” But what about these days? The media is beating the drums for a bad economy. Is there a bad economy? Depends on so many things that who can say. If you just got fired, the economy is bad. If you are looking for work and you can’t get a job, perhaps the economy is bad. But if you are doing OK and you are living in a nice house and driving a great car and you have money in the bank, then perhaps the economy is great. Now, if you ask people if the economy is bad or good, they might tell you, “My neighbor is out of work, but I have a great job.” It is all about your point of view. When the Market is down, it is a great opportunity to Buy, Buy, And Buy. If the Market is up, it is great time to Sell, Sell Sell…The media wants you to think the economy is bad so they can write about it or show people out of work for it makes a good story. Are you watching the Market? No, not the flea market. I have some free time and have been watching the financial markets. It makes me concerned and even a little scarred. Are you scarred? Are you mildly concerned? Do you have any money in the market? My Dad and my Grandpa lost it all during the crash in 1929, which began the Depression. They could have gotten out of the market, but they delayed too long to act. It is all about timing you know. So what I think is very disturbing in the financial area these days is that so many investors are selling their stocks and getting out of the market. So where are these intelligent people putting their money? No, not in their shoe. They are buying bonds. You know, Treasury Bonds. Do you know what the interest is these days? It is the lowest in a long time, and yet, people are still buying bonds. Do they know something we don’t? Can you imagine sticking your money in a bond for 30 years at a little over only 4%? Who knows what shape the world will be in 30 years? It is food for thought. What do you think? Are you concerned about the economy or do you think the media is just making bad news so they can report on it? Or, is this all just a big correction and the market will go up again…. and you should just hang in there? Or is this the beginning of something very bad? Dear Family, Tuesday 29, Jan 08 is Florida primary day. Are you going to vote? As you know, voting is the most important privilege of citizens in a Republican Nation, such as ours. (No pun). I know you always are interested in what your Dad is going to do, and how I am thinking. So, here is my take on this upcoming election, which I firmly believe is the most important election in my lifetime (and yours). I am still a little undecided as to whom I will vote for. IMHO, none of the Republican contestants are true Conservatives. I would hate to have to vote for Mc Cain, or Giuliani or Huckabee. And Ron Paul is a joke. So that just leaves one other, whom I do not consider a perfect candidate either. Oh yes, a man’s religious beliefs worry some. You may not remember that JFK was a Catholic, and many were afraid that the Pope would be telling Jack what to do. How silly! Now, I strongly believe that a President of the United States should have extensive experience in leadership. A governor of a state has that training. I also believe that that person should also have experience in meeting a payroll. Only a businessman has that experience. I really believe that none of the candidates in any election is perfect. However, I believe that in comparison to the Democrat candidates, any Republican is better qualified. I said this is the most important election in our lifetime. Can you imagine the terrible disaster if Obama became President? Or the Clintons? Oh yes, there is Edwards, can you see him as President after 911? Need I say more? My opinion of the democrat platform is that it is the work of simple people who are influenced by “special interest groups from the far left”. As you know, one plank of the democrat platform is national health care which is just another name for socialized medicine. (The democrats would ruin the best health care system in the world.) And in addition, they would get us out of Iraq, which is surrender to the Islamic terrorists. I frequently tell my liberal friends that we are still in Germany, Japan and Korea, over half a century after WW2. Oh yes, I might add that in addition to freeing the Iraqi people from terrorism, we are in the Middle East because it is about oil. Yes, anyone who does not know that is not very well informed. We are dependent upon Middle East oil and we must protect that interest in every way shape and form. Oil is the life blood of our economy. If we started today to drill in the Gulf of Mexico and ANWAR, it would still take years before the oil in those regions came on line. Moreover, we must also construct refineries in the US. At any rate, we are in the Middle East forever. But I digress. Another plank in the democrat platform is higher taxes to help pay for their profligate spending. Then there is also immigration and global warming (What if Gore had become President? OMG! Hence, can anyone in their right mind name one good plan the democrats have supported? So, I know that any Republican, no matter how flawed, would be better than the Clinton’s or Obama. So what to do? Vote and hold your nose? Or vote for the best of the worst? What do you think? Of course you just might not vote at all, but then, you would have to keep your mouth shut for at least the next four years and perhaps more. By the by, I hope you will encourage your voting age kids to vote. So, I guess Mama and I will vote this primary. This election is not about Left and Right, it is about Right and Wrong. If the cook has to ask, “How did you like the meal?” that cook does not know if they should cook it again. Is it proper to ask the diners, if they enjoyed the meal? Is that presumptuous? Perhaps, but how else does the cook know? So, I believe it is the responsibility of the diners to let the cook know if the meal was good, better, best. (Or poor) What if the diners say nothing? If a tree falls in the forest, and there is no one to hear it, is there any sound? How can we know if no one was there? Feedback is important. No, it is essential to communication. If you send a message to another, have they received it? You will not know unless there is feedback. Any response, even a negative one is important. Feedback! It is essential for teachers, businessmen (women), nurses, educators, parents, and of course, writers. What do you think? JRB
Ordinarily, I do not make New Year's resolutions. But I have decided to make a few this year... and stick to them. Here is mine. If it needs, doing, DO IT!. As an example, if there are dishes in the dish washer, take them out and put them away. If the bath tub needs cleaned, DO IT. If the bed needs made, DO IT. If the windows need cleaned, DO IT. Notice, these tasks are normally done by the woman of the house. Why is that? You know, cause the man is too busy doing "more important things". BS. Things that need done... neeed done. I have more resolutions, but I will cover them later. Happy New Year. Love Dad

Amber sorry I did not phone to to come to make cookies yesterday but Grandpa and I Made at date and went on a picnic at St.Marks light house. It was a nice day and we both feel better for having done that. We needed something different in our lives. It sure is a pretty place even in the winter time. I had wished it would have been a little cooler. Christy you all were missed at the New Year lunch. It was a little chilly at times but we had fun anyway. We had plenty of dogs there but I missed have the younger members of the family being around. It did seem strange. We also missed Barbra, Derek, Adam, Sarah and Conor. Maybe next year. Love to all.

Ode to My Heart Hail to you old friend! We have been together, over 77 years. You have served me faithfully for so long. You have been abused with every thing I could give you. (Bad food, nicotine, alcohol.) And yes, stress. You have been stopped and started again. You have been by- passed. You have so many stents, that you are now full of metal. You are only 25 percent effective. And still you pump on, making my blood flow to almost every part of my body. At night, in the darkness, I listen to you. Your beet is irregular. Sometimes, you flutter and I think, “Is this the time?” But still you pump on, and you will, until my last moment. Hundreds of thousands have been spent keeping you pumping, and some might say, “What a waste.” Of course, I disagree. So hail to you old friend! We cannot do without each other. Burrrrr. It is sooo cold. But by the end of the week, it will be back in the 70s . Why does anyone live north of the Mason Dixon line? Do you remember freezing your butt off shovling that white stuff? I am sitting here beside my window and watching the birds eat. The bird bath is ice.
