She might have been the fancy one. She had it all. Her hair was beautiful. Her face was so pretty. Her body was slim and trim. She was tall and graceful. When she spoke, her voice was sweet and melodious. She had a special grace about her in nearly everything she did. But, she opted rather to be the plain one. She did not like to style her hair and she would have worn it short. She did not care to wear jewelry or wear bracelets on her wrists or gold chains around her neck, or rings on her fingers, nor adorn herself with perfume. She would have rather worn plain clothes that did not accent her feminineness. She might have worn high heels that would have even further shown off her great legs, but rather, she wore low heels so that her tallness would not be noticed. She did not draw attention to herself in anyway and she shunned the limelight. And yet, she was one of the most beautiful women that I have ever known. Everyone who knew her loved her and respected her and adored her. She is the wind beneath my wings Do you know this mystery lady?

One of my greatest heroes (if I have any outside my family) has passed away. William F. Buckley…. TAPS, 2008 He was 82. My dearest Father taught me Conservatism and showed me that it was the only philosophy for me. But as I grew older, I found William F. Buckley and I listen to him and thought, “That is how I think”. His philosophy was so simple but so easy to understand that it has influenced me until this very day. Now, the torch has been passed to RUSH LIMBAUGH. I attend his university every week day and have rarely found him wrong. There is no graduation day, because, leaning continues for as long as we live. Long Live WILLIAM F. BUCKLEY. Love your Dad

It is 0530 and I was watching CNN, (imagine that) and suddenly I was hearing Ariang, played by the Philadelphia Philharmonic in Pyongyang NK . This beautiful song is the national folk song of all Korea. Suddenly I was remembering the sentimental words that I learned in 1959 when I was stationed in South Korea. How memories persist over the years. Does a song ever stick in your mind?

Joeconservblog: The voice from the left (Joe’s Rant) From time to time, I go to NPR to hear the voice of the left... Most of the time, it is the little old liberal bitty, Diane Rehm show that I listen to which comes on mid- morning, Monday through Friday. Let me begin by saying that I believe NPR is pitched to nags and fags and libs and just plain anyone from the leftwing. So, listening to that program convinces me that liberalism is a form of mental illness. The panelists who are on the show, and those who call in, make me wonder how so many people can be so stupid. As you already know, I think that at least 75% (perhaps more) of the American people are ignorant (they ignore the facts) or they do not know the facts. My rationale is that at least 50% of the American people do not vote. Their reasons, if they even know what they are, is that their vote does not count. Or that they do not know what or who to vote for. Then many are just too lazy to vote or they are just simply stupid. Write them all off. They do not deserve the benefits of a Republican Nation such as ours was designed to be by our Founding Fathers. Then when one considers the other 50% of the American people, approximately 20% always vote democrat, regardless of who is running for President or what their candidate espouses. My belief that democrats are ignorant comes from what they believe in and who their candidates are for public office. Imagine Clinton as our Commander in Chief. Can you even contemplate Obama as the Commander in Chief? Anyone who thinks that either of those individuals would make a good President is short on grey matter. Most democrats don’t have the slightest idea what their candidates propose to do as President, so I need not go into how frightening the beliefs of democrats are. Then there is the other side of the isle (about 20%) who always vote for a Republican. I am afraid that there probably is just as large a group of Republican’s who do not know much about their candidates or what they believe in. That leaves about 10% who are undecided. They pitiful souls just can’t make up their minds. They are the middle of the roader’s. They are the “guy’s in the middle”. Remember, the line in the middle of the road is a dangerous place, and the color speaks for itself. So there we have it. Most Americans are not interested in politics. They know the football scores. Or they can tell you who the American Idle is. Kids don’t care much who the President is. Boomers may care but they are too busy making a living. Geezers care but their interest is waning. They might not be alive by election time. It is a pretty sad picture when one considers that our vote is one of the most important rights of citizenship. And the job of the President is to protect us. Well, to come back to NPR. In the old days it used to be fun to listen to the music and interesting stories. There was Garrison Keiller and the opera and of course folk songs. But in the last decade, NPR has gotten so far to the left that it is disgusting. It literally is the “voice of the left”. But it is good to listen to NPR from time to time so that you know what people on the left think. No wonder they think that way. If one listened to NPR all of the time, they would probably become leftists in short order. I have no problem with NPR being the voice of the left, but, my taxes go to support NPR. So, their complete lack of balance pisses me off. Well, I must get back to RUSH and SHAWN and their ilk. So, what about the 75+ ignorant Americans? They are mind dimmed idiots and it is best to just write them off. Oh well, it will be your problem soon. I may just tune out. Love Dad PS: As you know, the motto of FOX is “Fair and Balanced”. To get the balance, FOX employs Mara Liason and Juan Williams as guest commentators. Both of whom are died in the wool liberal lefties from NPR. Every evening during the week, you can see these two liberals voice their opinions. And, it pisses NPR and many liberals, who hate FOX with a bitter passion. Having Liason and Williams on FOX is more than most liberals can stand. But I think that FOX has their motive. And it is outstanding. First Liason and Williams hear Conservative views and opinions that they would never hear under any other circumstance. Secondly, both of these liberals just may be influenced by what they hear on FOX. And just maybe, they may repeat a few of those Conservative ideas when they voice their liberal opinions on NPR. Life is great! Yeah FOX!

How did we do it? We used to be together in Niceville. We used to meet at Falling Waters and go to AJ Henry Park for picnics and birthdays. Now, life is so busy for everyone and it makes demands on the family that are impossible to meet. You are all so busy with your own lives that we only see you and hear you in brief sound bites. But that is life. It moves on and in the end, all you have is beautiful memories. It is the same with you also for your children grow up and move on. They are so busy that they have little time for family get to- gethers. So, enjoy every moment you get together. It is gone too soon. We appreciate what ever and when ever we see you and we know how precious it is. Love to you all, your Dad

The Bible says we are, “Made in God’s image’. Well, so you don’t believe in God, whose image are we made in then? I guess we are just accidents or perhaps decedents from an amoeba. That is a terrible thought isn’t it? I like to think it was God that I descended from. No matter, most of us are pretty awful looking things. Have you ever gone to the doctor’s office and looked at the terrible wreckage that is sitting in the doctor’s office? OMH ! What a mess. How often do you see a really handsome man? Perhaps you consider that you are handsome, if so you better look more closely in the mirror next time. Now, I thought Mitt Romney was handsome. But, the rest of us are pretty terrible looking specimens of mankind. And, the older we get, the worse off we look. Then, if you live long enough, your skin will get wrinkled and it will sag. Your hair will fall out and it will get grey and then white and then you will end up looking like queue- ball. Your sight will dim and your hearing will fade. All the fun things you used to do will get less important, and anyway, you won’t be able to do them any longer. Your spouse will just have to look at you and forget that your belly is hanging over your pants. Your muscles are sagging and you can’t run around the block any longer. And you won’t be worth a damn in bed. But you are still the “handsome guy” you thought you once were. As for the ladies, that pretty little thing that once made your heart tremble will get old and fat and her skin will sag and get wrinkled. Remember all the hours she spent lying on the beach getting tanned? Well, her skin will end up looking like old leather. Her face will become wrinkled and blotched from the sun. Her skin will sag and hang down like an old dish rag. No matter how much she has worked out, she will look older and older and she will end up looking like her mother. Her hair will grey and then get white and then it will start falling out. Of course this is all the good news. I will not mention what the bad news is. Don’t go there. But there is some more good news. If you are able, you can still enjoy life. Sometimes it is pretty hard to do, but it can be done. Live life a day at the time and enjoy every moment. Look at your spouse and remember that you loved her when she was young and pretty and really she is the same person beneath the skin. Well, you hope she is. We all change and pain can make us hard to live with sometimes. I wish I could be more positive but I have lived life for three quarters if a century and I have been there and done that. Good luck. Love to all, Dad

Where does love go after Valentine's Day?

Dad

15 Feb 2008

08:55 AM

love is what we are all looking for. It is why we do what we do. Kings and the common man, alike, are no different. We all seek someone, (anyone) that will love us. Many of us go through life and never find love. We are no different than dogs, and we long for someone to pet us. And when we find that special one, our life changes dramatically and we become more complete. Yesterday, on Valentine's Day, lovers all over the world became more attuned to love. We say love words to the one we love. We write poems, send gifts and give presents. And then, the next day, we often go back to being the same un-animated person we have been. So, let everyday be Valentine's Day and say, "I LOVE YOU", to the person we love and who loves us.. Dad

MY VALENTINE Darling, did you get my valentine, With my words that said, I love you? I wrote that you’re my sweetheart, And I promised always to be true. And, did you get the pretty roses, Each one that will let you know, That I will be yours forever, dear. I signed it, your loving husband, Joe. Perhaps I forgot to send those things Since I know you already know, That I will love you always, darling, No matter where ever you go. So, everyday, you’re my valentine. And, I pledge my life and love to you. And let my deeds prove what I say. So, I just hope these words will do. By Joseph R Bowman 14 February 2008 Dearest Bea, This is another Valentines Day, And one more year where I love you more than I did last year. We have had our ups and down’s, like any other couple. But some how We survive while others part and go their separate ways. If one asks me how we do it, I will tell them, frankly, I don’t know. It must be because we truly do love each other. And so, that is the only reason I can think of. Let us continue on till the end of our life, As we promised to do in our wedding vows. Always, my love, Your Joe

We just came home from seeing "The Graduate" at the Little Theater. As usual, it was outstanding. Mrs. Robinson took off her clothes. (All of them) WOW! now that is riskey here in Tallahassee. Great body! No one fainted, but I heard some gasps. Should have shown that scene again. Us old geesers need a raise from time to time. Buddy and I got up in the dark this morning and took the Yaris out on the road. We both loved the ride and seeing the sunrise was a special event. I was back in bed before my Valentine got awake. What can we do? What can any of us do? Yet, one person is important. Read history and see how one person has made a difference. You can have discussions with your children and your associates. (you might call them your friends) If you believe strongly in anything, you can have discussions with those people and perhaps convince them that your beliefs are valid. It takes passion. Other than that, LET YOUR VOICE BE HEARD. The future of the United States depends upon it. Love Dad

My choice for President dropped out. Too bad, he was not perfect, but neither is the other guy. But I could not and I will not do anything that would put any democrat into the Oval Office. So, I will support Mc Cain. You knew I would. I heard Mc Cain talk and he talks a good talk. We shall see! He sure isn't a good public speaker and he is an old geezer. It won't take long before the media starts telling us how old our candidate is. He looks old and he acts old and he is old. I know what I am talking about. So there. You know my direction. Mc Cain is better than any democrat. And, like his mom, I will hold my nose and vote.

Dearest Family, I don’t blame the politicians for the terrible dilemma we are in now. For what it is worth, I blame the American people. The people almost always get what they want. If there is trouble in the United States, and who could disagree with that? We must blame ourselves. If there are bad politicians, it is our fault. We put them there and keep them there. They give us what we want. Good or bad. If there are corrupt politicians in the Congress, it is our fault. It isn’t long before we know they are corrupt. If we want fewer taxes, we can get them. If we want politicians who are pro- life, we can get them. If we want our politicians to rely on The Constitution of The United States to do their job, we can have them. If we want to win the war against terrorism, we can do it. If we want a smaller, less intrusive government, we can have it. If we want better judges we can have them. If we want better Supreme Court Justices, we can get a President who will appoint them. So, when things are bad in our Nation, we can correct them. No, limiting the time the politicians spend in their office, (term limits) is not the solution. First and most importantly, we must have a firm resolve. We must know what we want and it must be based upon education in school and by our parents and by being true Americans. The Constitution is our guide. Then we must seek statesmen who will do our bidding. Where are they? We have loyal Americans who are capable and perhaps even willing to run for the highest office. But who would suffer the terrible effort necessary to seek the Presidency today? The cost is prohibitive. The scrutiny of the left leaning media is worse than a Colonoscopy. Moreover, the fickleness of the American people is enough to make any candidate sick to their stomach. So, who has the money and the qualities and the principles and the fortitude to seek the White House? Those who would be able and willing may be few and far between. Unfortunately, we have not sought candidates that can and will do our bidding. And I fear that the American people are slipping backward. We have learned that we can vote for politicians that will give us things. We have learned that like children, when we cry, we get a sweet. The future belongs to you my dearest family. Are you the Greatest Generation? Only history will tell.

CHANGE CHANGE CHANGE. We hear the candidates for President of the United States say they are for change. So if you have just voted to have your property tax reduced, that is change, and when the government raises your gas tax to pay for the services that you want, that is change also. Not all change is good. Be careful of what you wish for..you just might get it.

The United States was not established to give anything to the people. Not universal health care or a stimulus package to people who do not pay taxes. To be exact, it was all about being endowed by our Creator with certain inalienable rights, among which are, “Life liberty and the pursuit of happiness. Moreover, the rights in “The Bill of Right’s”, was not given to the people by the government but by our Creator. Now, that is not Wicca or Buddha or Mohamed. It was and is and will always be, GOD.

MY POLITICAL PHILOSOPHY Sometimes, my contacts and I get into some intense conversations. I must often bite my tongue or zipper my lip as Mama tells me. The other day, I got into a heated conversation on the definition of liberalism. After one person proclaimed that she was a staunch liberal, I asked her what her definition of liberalism was. She could only name a few positions of the democrat party and the current tribe of contestants from the democrat party who are running for President of the USA. So, I thought, I better brush up on what I believe about Conservatism. I have written extensively on what I believe about all sorts of topics. I have even written about my adventure in politics. But that was long ago and so I think I will consolidate my philosophy about Conservatism. Simply, a liberal gives a poor man a fish to eat. A Conservative teaches that person how to fish. But it is more complicated than that. I believe that the most important plank in a Conservatives belief is NATIONAL SECURITY: Nothing is more important. If the nation is not secure, nothing else matters. The nation must be preserved. We have fought many wars to protect this nation and except for a few times, our borders have protected the USA from attack. Then were the Twin Towers and all that security was threatened. We are no longer secure. I will go no further on the topic of national security. Suffice it to say, we must keep the enemy out and it will take the rest of all of our lives to see that is done. SECURE OUR BORDERS: Along with national security, I believe that our borders must be secure. If illegal aliens can come and go with impunity then we are no longer secure in our borders. Not only illegal’s can enter our country, our enemies can and will enter to do us harm. We must do everything possible to secure our borders. REDUCE OUR TAXES: Our taxes are too high. Why? Because, the government is insatiable. Our tax dollars are spent with an impunity that is incomparable. Moreover, the government acts just like our money is their money. The trouble is, we are mostly responsible. We vote for our representatives then we demand that they spend our money on our (their) pet projects i.e. parks and highways and all sorts of fancy things. Before we know it, there are buildings all over the place built with our dollars with the name of our representative over the entrance. Someone once said that our nation was finished as soon as the citizens learned how to vote ourselves a raise in pay. When taxes are reduced, this kind of spending will be reduced. It will never be eliminated as long as humans are on the earth. REDUCE SIZE OF THE GOVERNMENT: This plank in my Conservative beliefs goes along with reducing taxes. The government just keeps getting bigger. Why? Because we want more and more. More projects require oversight. More oversight demands more committees. Well, you get the picture. We must vote for representatives who are constantly reminded by us that they are our servants not the other way around. When you have a tiger by the tail, you can never let up the pressure. The government is like an elephant, it is running amok SUPREME COURT: I consider the appointment of the Supreme Court Justices, to the most important power of the President. Appointment of Conservative Justices influences our laws. When there is a majority of Conservative Justices, the Court is more inclined to favor the Conservative form of government. We have already seen the detrimental affect which a liberal balance of the Court has had on the USA. Roe v. Wade and a host of other liberal decisions shows what liberalism can and does do. Most importantly, appointment of a Justice is for life. The proceeding represents my philosophy of Conservatism. Now I will briefly discuss my observations on areas which liberals strongly support, and which I strongly disagree with: PRO LIFE: I strongly believe that life is the most important thing to most Americans. Can you imagine anyone being able to convince an American to blow them selves up because of religion? Yet, we kill unborn babies in the womb with impunity. It is said that Women have the “right to chose”. Where does that right come from? Not the Constitution of the United States. No, it comes from the Supreme Court. A few Justices on the liberal side of the court were influential in bringing Roe v. Wade to the USA. The American people did not vote on the law. Does anyone think that Roe v. Wade would have passed if the American people were given the opportunity to vote for killing the unborn? Oh yes, some call it a fetus, but what woman says that she is having a fetus? Might I add that women have the right to chose when they go to bed? It is doubtful that abortion will ever be banned. (Well, it once was illegal) But it can and must be reduced. It should not be as birth control. If human life is not respected, what is? FREE SPEECH: The First Amendment to the CONSTITUTION is probably the most important right of the American people. It separates us from almost every other nation. We can and do pretty much say whatever we want. We may not like what we hear, but all we have to do then is turn it off, or don’t listen. Yet, the Fairness Doctrine, which would attempt to squash free speech, is being flirted with. The election of any democrat to the Presidency in 09 will effectively silence free speech by balancing TALK RADIO. I.e. there would have to be balance to any program where only one side of an argument is presented. THE RIGHT TO KEEP AND BEAR ARMS: The Second Amendment to the Constitution is one of the most important rights of the people. Citizens of a free nation must be able to keep and bear their own firearms. When the government no longer trusts the people to have their own firearms, the government is too dangerous. GLOBAL WARMING: Perhaps the biggest hoax perpetrated on the American people is global warming. As it stands today, it is almost a religion. I will not expand further. You know what it is all about. I believe that if there is a democrat President in 09, global warming will destroy the American economy. SUMMARY: This seems like an exhaustible list. Actually it is very simple. One who is a Conservative must first of all be a strict Constructionist. I firmly believe that The Constitution of the United States is perfect. Moreover, it is not a living document. It is what it is. The Founding Fathers were not liberals. They were Conservative. The United States is not perfect, but it is the most perfect nation in the world. We are the last great hope for civilization. That is my political philosophy. JRB .

It's back to the medical system once more. Urology checked me out for prostatitus. After the usual internal, I went for an X- Ray and then scheduled for another appoitment in late Feb where I will get the real business. I will not go into my symptoms and you can go on line if you are interested. It is unpleasant to say the least.

Claude, that was an outstanding post. Please use the guestbook as a form to express our opinions. Generations unborn may read what we have said and wonder what kind of creatures we were. By the way, if we don't discuss politics and sex and religion, what else is there to agitate our little minds and generate intelligent discussion? The unexplored life is not worth living. Keep up the good work!!! How about a discussion on global warming? How about where the WMD's went. I love Actnuts. Few families have such a wonderful site. Yeah Kurt the webmaster. I love you, Claude. Your Dad

Kurt: Amber and Siera did a great job on their video; bloopers are always the funniest. Financial advice from somebody who doesn't know a thing about the market: Doesn't matter if a Conservative or a Liberal are in office in 2008; by 2009/10 there will be a recession maybe a depression in the works---or maybe we're in one now but wait for the next one very quickly. Current volatility is not good for those out of work for sure--namely me but it will pick up by the end of the year in my opinion. The best bet is who will be able to fight the Islamic fascists? A lot of imperfect candidates but then again when was the last time we had a perfect candidate? Reagan probably came the closest in recent history--my musician brother thinks he had Alzheimers his whole administration--go figure. Definitely will need a calming effect provided by the likes of FDR. Ooops! Nina reminded not to talk about sex, politics or religion in public; at least I got it right on two out of three. I'll let Kurt handle the other two. Kurt: Thanks for all you do with keeping this outstanding website up and running and enjoyable.

Yesterday, Arnold endorsed John. Ted endorsed Obama. Kerry endorsed Obama. Bill probably endorsed Hill. So today, I endorse Mitt. Yes, I endorse Mitt because he was a businessman. Being President of the USA demands a leader who has met a payroll. The Presidency of the USA demands a man who has managed a business and been successful in doing so. The Presidency of the USA demands a leader who has vast integrity who has led a State. Mitt has done both and done so successfully. Mitt is not perfect, but no one is. So, today, I Joseph R Bowman, endorse Mitt.
