When asked what the difference is between liberalism and conservatism, my reply is that if there is a hungry man, the liberal gives him a fish, and tells him that a fish will be delivered by the government every day. The conservative teaches the hungry man to fish and when he catches more fish than he needs, he should sell them. Jesus siad, "The poor we have with us always."

Who will be John McCain's VP? How can any one ever be unexcited by politics? Everything in our lives is politics. And today, when we are in another terribly dangerous time, and our Country is in peril, the man who becomes the President of the United States, will change the direction of our country on either the right or wrong path. And how can we not care about that? The Founding Fathers knew that a uninformed electorate would not be able to sustain our form of self government. Our media is not keeping the people informed... and that is their job. But, it is the fault of the people. The people always get what they want, and if the people don't care, they get trash or misinformation. Where is the Greatest Generation? Love, your Dad

Dear Family, a long time ago, when you were still young and innocent, George W Bush had just been elected, President of The United States. Then terrible circumstances befell our Country. Being wise, and knowledgeable in the ways of the world, I predicted that one day, President Bush would be known as the “Worst President in History” Some idiot po po’d my predictions. But I knew that the media and the foolish American People would, one day, think of “W” as an idiot. In fact, even some who thought “W” was wonderful, now think that he is a poor leader. Oh my, how things change! Today, I heard that our President is the “worst President in History” on the radio and I saw it on TV last evening. No one even wants to be seen with “W” He is inarticulate and unlearned and he can’t even make a speech without mistakes in English and content. But, history is a peculiar thing, and perhaps one day, W will be seen as one of the best Presidents in history. At least that is my prediction. Too bad I won’t be around to see it. But, you will. Love, Dad

HAPPY ANNIVERSARY Bea! 56 YEARS ago, Bea and Joe repeated their wedding vows. We didn't know where we were heading . We had no money and not much, except for a bed and a few orange crates. But off we went and we have had the greatest adventure that life could give us. We won life's lottery. Our greatest contributation to this world has been our chldren. They are all successful and good citizens, and they raised good children also. They have done us proud! We didn't get to be rich or famous and we have lived modestly but comfortably. We did not do many of the expensive things that the rich and famous do. But we have weathered nearly every storm that life could throw at us, and we survived where others have failed. We have the simple but proven principles and morals that most real Americans have. We love our family and our Country and we are proud to be American. So, Happy Anniversary to you my pretty bride. I would marry you again and again. We don't agree on many things but we do agree on the most important issues. I love you and hope to be with you for the rest of our life.

Dearest Family, there he goes again! I sometimes wonder if you shudder when you see my e-mail. What does he want now? What is he raving about? Sorry! I know you are busy but there isn’t much time left. I didn’t say much to you when I was a young father. I was raised in another time and place. Some may even say you can remember what I said to you. I admit that I was a tough father. I did not have any brothers or sisters. I was raised as an only child and was treated like that way. No one treated me like a little boy. I lived in an adult world and was given adult responsibilities. I say that not as an excuse, but as just the way it was. I soon acted like I was the boss. So, that is how I treated you. Little Kim was the boss when I was gone. You know how that must have pissed off the rest of you? You never knew my Dad. He was raised on the frontier and kids didn’t count for much, except someone to do the work that adults would not do. Boys were meant to do as their father did and girls were meant to do what their mothers did. Oh how our culture has changed. So, if I didn’t cut you any slack that was me. I have mellowed considerably since then and now you see the nice guy that I am. So, I am writing to you to share my thoughts with you. So much to say, so little time…..I would hate to leave the AO without letting you know how I think. Love, your Dad

Dearest Family, What do you believe? Not in sex, drugs and rock and roll. (Just kidding) In what do you really believe? Have you ever thought about that important question? As young people, we probably don’t think much about what we believe. But as we get older, we become more thoughtful and start to solidify our ideas. One day many years ago, I thought, what do I believe? When I was just a child, I began lessons in the church that led to what has stuck with me all of my life. My training in the Church taught me to love God. I formed ideas based upon what I learned as a member of my family. Later as I went to Valley Forge Military Academy, I learned more of what formed my Code of Conduct. I learned about Duty, Honor and Country. My family had always served their Country in one form or the other, beginning with the Civil War and through World War Two. My Father served his country as an Assistant Post Master of the Millersburg Post Office. Serving in the United States Army, taught me to love my Country. But it took many years before I was able to state my core beliefs. Socrates teaches us that the “unexamined life is not worth living.” So, as you grow older and grow in experience and in training, you begin to develop your core beliefs. If you go to my section of Actnuts, I have listed for you, my beliefs. I am proud of what I believe. A person, who does not believe in something, believes in nothing. What will you tell your family? What are your core beliefs? Help your kids to form their own beliefs. May God Bless the United States of America. Love, your Dad

Dearest Family,” Have you been watching the political scene?” I was talking to one of my friends along the way whom I know is liberal. Now, I know a liberal when I seen one, just as you do. They are all the same and you can even spot one, because somehow they look like they are unkempt. They usually wear an old raggedy sweater and have leather elbow inserts on their sleeves. And, you know, they speak in “libspeak”. Of course, they are “green” and they detest drilling in the pristine Gulf of Mexico. Not to mention ANWR. They are a global warming nut also. And by all means they oppose the illegal War in Iraq. They might also be a Veggie” and they have a “lib- car” like a Volvo or a hybrid. They talk about the poor people who do not have health- care and they are generally sad. They scowl most of the time and rarely smile. But they have some redeeming characteristics. They sometimes even have interesting points of view. Let me think of what they might be. Of course, they are not hunters and they hate guns and have never gone to the gun show or to the range. But they might love classical music and my friend loves Wagner and Beethoven, so I have something in common with her. Well anyway, I listen to libs because they are often fun to talk with and I like to hear what they have to say and hear how they think. I don’t agree with them, but I can still communicate with a liberal. In fact I can talk with almost anyone who is willing to talk with me. Talking with a liberal is like listening to NPR or cartoons. So, I have a few liberal friends and I have two on my route. Back to my story, one day I asked my liberal friend if she had tuned into the political scene yet. Of course she doesn’t watch FOX because that would be too far to the Right. No “Fair and Balance news” for her. My friend gets her news from the alphabet channels. (That is when and if she does find the time). It makes her unhappy, for she says that all news is bad. (That is what people like to hear isn’t it?) You can bet that CNN is her principle source of news. I well remember when Ted Turner’s channel was the only place that presented the news, 24/7. So, thank goodness for FOX. My friend replied that she had watched CNN when Obama and McCain were being interviewed at the Camelback Church in California. So I decided to toy with her. I asked what she thought about the interview and if she had made up her mind on who she might vote for as a result. She hesitated for a moment and then told me it would be Obama. ( I already knew that) However, she sounded apologetic when she mentioned Osama’s name because I know she does not like Negroes. So I went on. I asked her why she was going to vote for Barry Obama, after seeing him perform so poorly during the Camelback interview. She told me that he was so handsome and had such great answers. I then asked her if there was some other thing that attracted her to him. She told me that it was because he would be the “first Negro to be the President of the United States.” (By the way, my friend thinks we should apologize to the Blacks for Slavery and pay them reparations.) I went on to ask her what she thought Obama would do as President of the United States. She said, it would be the establishment of universal health care. I almost choked, but I did not say anything. I will not go on to recount everything she said, because it was the same old liberal litteny. You might hear it every night on CNN. As you have found out, it is useless to try to try to communicate with a liberal. Their mind is just a bowl full of Jell-O. You might as well argue with a child. I listened carefully to my friend for a while and then got bored. Buddy wanted to continue on our walk so off we went. A lib is a lib and if you hear one, you’ve heard them all. If only I could find someone whose mind is not mired in concrete. Most of the time I find that Conservatives are just as bad as the libs and unless you ask them a question they are mute, and if you do ask them a question, they get up on their soap box and they can’t be shut up. But, I will continue to talk with my liberal friend regardless of her left- wing ideas. A person who cannot talk with someone with whom they do not agree with is no better than they are. My friend is one of the 20% who always have and always will vote democrat. You remember when Churchill said, if you are 20 and not a lib, you have no heart. And if you are still liberal at 40, you have no brain. Well, you can Google it all to get the right words. Do not fear, I have plenty of Conservative friends also along my route and they are just as hard corps as the libs. And they will also only vote for a Conservative. Like me, they were unconvinced prior to Camelback but they think they will now vote for McCain. However it is important to know that if John decides he will pick a liberal as his VP, we just might be back in the unconvinced side of the isle. We are Conservative first and then maybe Republican. So, here is my take on the matter; the difference between the libs and the conservatives is they the conservatives know why they will vote for McCain. But, I want to makes sure you know that if John has a liberal VP, i.e. Lieberman, we probably will just sit out this one and let the USA take its’ lumps. Let the people know what it is like when they screw up. Our Nation will survive, (some how) Life is great. Are you brave enough to get serious with your friend? MAY GOD BLESS AMERICA! Love, your Dad

WAH WAH WAH, It is the weekend and reluctantly I went to NPR. (The Weekend Addition). There is nothing on the Talk Station that I am interested in on the weekend. So, I sometimes listen to the voice of the LEFT. Everything that should be UP was Down. Everything that should be Down is UP. The list was endless: the war in Iraq, the economy, housing, race relations, the turmoil in Georgia and even the weather. Everything is screwed up. UCK! So I listened for a while and I got so unhappy that I felt sick to my stomach and had to turn to Country Music. It is never different and you might ask, why do I listen to NPR? I guess it’s my addiction to pain and I like to feel unhappy from time to time. (How about a segment entitled, “How to rock with heavy metal in Iraq or heavy metal in Baghdad?”)? What trash, no wonder they have no sponsors or the only listeners are libs, fags and of course, lefties. But, it is good to know what and how the “enemy” is thinking. They need RUSH to spark up their programs. Then they could look for sponsors and make some money rather than having programs to get people to give donations. Do you know that some of your tax money goes to support NPR? By the way, if you get the Democrat, (another left- wing news rag) and can stand to read Garrison Keillor on Saturday you will know what I am talking about. Have a nice Day. Love, your Dad

This morning I had an epiphany. I got up early to check my sugar and it was 95 at 0530 (fasting) WOW! So I made my breakfast and turned on FOX. I watched OBAMA being interviewed at the Saddleback Civil Form. I was not impressed with his answers. Then I watched McCain, and soon I was cheering (silently) and there were tears streaming from my eyes. Yes, YES! John was saying the same things that I strongly believe in. It was like listening to RUSH. John is my choice for President! He is awesome. In the past, I have disagreed frequently with this man, but today I was awakened. This is the most important election in our life. The world is in turmoil and the President of the United States is the most important individual in the world. And the United States is the only Nation of its kind in history. We can and we must prevail. An Obama presidency would be a disaster and we cannot afford his leadership. I urge you to watch the Saddleback Civil form on FOX. It will be on a rerun somewhere and it is important to see the difference between these men. We know nothing about Obama and unfortunately there has been little to educate the public. The Founding Fathers knew that our form of government required an informed electorate for it to survive. So, my dearest Family, if you know a liberal or democrat, confront them, and ask whom they think they will vote for. If they are undecided or even if they emphatically tell you they will vote for Obama, confront them and ask them to consider. This is my sincere opinion and you know that I do not lie. Love, your Dad

Congratulations Sarah! Now you can drive solo. Now the rest of us will worry when you are out there on the “mean streets” and over- due. Please do not forget that you have a great responsibility. You are behind the wheel of a dangerous weapon that can kill others and bring personal damage to yourself and others. Watch out for everything around you. Danger lurks in every direction. Remember to use a light foot on the pedal. Don’t forget to make your passengers obey the rules. Never start your car without everyone on board buckling up. Watch out for all your instruments. (Especially your gas gage). Obey the rules of the road. Keep your parents informed. Have a road plan, i.e.: let your Mom know where you are going and when you expect to return. Later the damage was often beyond our repair and we just had to hope you could get better on your own. But as the years passed, the roles have gotten reversed. However today, you are rushing to help us and bandage up our falls. And, as time passes, it will be harder to help us, but we will still need your help.
