| Goodbye little Darlin | |
| 01.22 We put Darlin down today. We have many memories of our little pup. I remember bringing her home with Amber over 14 years ago. She sat on Amber's lap and was given her name. Darlin was treated like a little princess by Amber. First in bed and last out of bed. She slept with Amber every single night. Amber was alway cautious and weary of Darlin's whereabouts. We will miss her. |

CommentsAmber and Sarah, you are great spice girls. Keep it up and you will be on the stage. I am waiting till you both give us a concert on your guitars. It takes courage to perform so tell the nay sayers to go pound sand. They do not have the courage to do it. Love Grandpa (isn't Actnuts great?)
CommentsHi Sarah! I will put it on. Give me a couple days. Love ya
Commentshey everyone. uncle kurt can you put the videos of me and amber dancing when we were little to spice girls? pleaseseeeeee. i love you guys!
CommentsOn Wednesday evening, Amber came to interview me for her schooll project on my memories of Vietnam. She brought her guitar and played songs that are popular in her life. When I learned she would bring her guitar, I went on line to get songs that I knew. I thought we might play our guitars together. The songs I selected were, "Oh Suzanna" and the like. I thought, "I am still in the horse and buggy age while Amber is in the modern age." Never the less, we all had a lot of fun and it was a nice evening and great to have our Granddaughter visit with us. How lucky Grandma and I are to live in Tallahassee where we can be close to our family. Thank you so very much Amber for coming to visit your Grandparents. You are a nice young woman. You treat us with respect. You are a good communicator and we are so proud of you. We look forward to your resturn.
CommentsGreat post Nina. We need more like that. By the way, the other day Conor wanted to talk with Buddy. See how wonderful it is it be a little child. They still believe in Santa. They still remember what a cha cha is and they would take it in a heart beat. Gotta go now. The President is going to speak. If he just shows up on time he will have done more than anyone imagines he could do. He probably is the most reviled president in recent history. But he is the kind of man I would like in my fox hole. Go get em George. You are my kinda guy. If he can bring it off, (Iraq) he deserves to be on Mt Rushmore.
CommentsI hope everyone had a good day. I had a very busy one as Dr Postma and I are on call on most every Tuesday and it is non stop action. I spoke to Kurt today and it was good to talk to him. Those unexpected calls from my brothers and sister are very important to me. CLaude is up in Kansas freezing his buns off. Everyone have a good week. Hey Sarah have your mom video you playing the guitar. Claude wants to hear Smoke on the Water. Send it to Kurt and he will post it.
CommentsAmber, I am so sorry that Darling had to be put down. I remember how sad we were when our Sandy got ill and we had to make that decision. Darling had a great life and she was well loved. I know you will always miss her company and will always remember her unconditional love that only a dog can give you. Love you!
CommentsFREE HEALTHCARE FOR THOSE WHO DON'T HAVE IT? BULL CRAP! Where does it say that healthcare is a right? Are we now going to have to pay the government to insure the indigent (poor) for free healthcare? Enough already. I want a free Avalon. I deserve it! I fought for my country. I am a veteran. Please send my Avalon (silver) and make it fully loaded. Make sure it is tax free cause I already pay too damn much taxes.
CommentsDear Amber, We were thinking of you last evening and all the family. Kurt had phoned and said what you all had decided to do. I know you will miss Darlin as she has been a part of your life for many years. I know you will miss her and you must know and remember that death is part of life for all of us. I can understand why your parents do not feel you should have another dog at this time in your life as your life is very busy and will be very busy for a long time. I love you Amber and hope to see you soon. Your poem is just beautiful and it makes me happy to know that you can express yourself in words.
Comments
CommentsI hope you will feel free to comment on my posts or post your own. Remember, conversation is two way.
CommentsHere it is a new week and I hope you are all ready to face it and do all that you must do. Just wanted to let you know that I love you all and wish I could see you all more often. There may be time for that later. Stay well and in good health.
CommentsWHO IS YOUR FAVORITE KID? Kristen asked me that. The answer was simple. Kurt is my favorite because we sharred so much together at a very special time in my life. I will never forget the Rancocas and the Deleware and Burlington Island and Erik and Mt. Holly, and oh so much more. But Kim is my very favorite for we sharred so much together. We had the pararie and Pueblo and Panama and camping and the Jeep and the mountains... and well, there is too much to add to this. Of course Nina is my favorite for she is more like me than she wants to admit. Nina is our best product. She is a hard charger and a beautiful person and a nurse and Dr Postma's most important assistant. Well, Barbra is my favorite cause she is so much like my Mom. She is so much fun and she is married to our Derek and I love to hear her beautiful voice, and well, she is my favorite and I could spend the rest of my life with her. So, that is what I told Kristen
CommentsWHO IS THE MOST IMPORTANT PERSON IN YOUR LIFE? Some time when you are sitting around shooting the bull, ask that question. See if the answer isn't someone in your family. I know you have all met great people. Derek just met the American ambassador to France. This is pretty high on the list of "Great Men" But would any of you name a general or a governor as your "most important person"? I doubt it. The most important persons in our life are our spouse and our kids. Aren't they all great? Love, Dad
CommentsI know what you mean about those simple phone calls. Now that my kids are out and about so much and Kurt is busy with work, I have lots of time alone. I wonder if my kids are ok with their friends, if Kurt is ok at work and those little messages (text, email or calls) make you feel that you are still part of their lives.
CommentsNO NEWS IS GOOD NEWS? Ever heard of that pithy cliche? Well it may be true but it is really crap. When your kids are out, and it is past ten, and you haven't heard from them, is no news good news? No way! Just a call from your kids saying, "Hello Mom and Dad, I am at the bowling alley and we are having fun and I will be home by eleven." Is that news good? does that relieve your fears? It takes a few minutes, but it is worth a million bucks. An e-mail might do as well, for just knowing your kids are OK makes a big difference. It even works with your adult kids. When you don't hear from them for a few days, you would love to get an e-mail from them if even just to say, Hello Mom and Dad. I miss you and love you.
CommentsWrite long and to your hearts content. Tempis Fugit grandpa!! We love you! Take heed to his words whomever may read.
CommentsHello world. It is Sunday morning and not yet five o'clock. Most, if not all of you are still in bed. This is the best time of day for me. I have spent a lifetime of being up early. I used to get up when Grandma Mattie rapped on the pipe that ran through the kitchen below me up through my room. That has been so long ago but is still very clear in my mind. Early mornings continued for the rest of my life. I am writing my memories to you in this form because I feel that my time is running out. I am afraid that I will not have said all of the things that I wanted to say to you. Well, I promised you pithy things but you may not consider them so. I will try to keep my comments short because I know you are busy. Love, Dad
CommentsBut on the other hand, what if I had not asked her? or if I asked "Osie" to dance first? Or if I had gone up Second Street? Is our life just a random journey. Or,are we programmed by sime sinister force to go and do and say? Where do we come from and where do we go? Is it the chicken or the egg? Why does the chicken cross the road? Am I my brother's keeper? What if I don't have a brother? When I come to a fork in the road, should I take " The Road less Traveled"? Is there a God that watches over us? Is the world really flat? If we are going around at over eighteen thousand miles an hour, why are there no leaves moving? If there are millions of celestial bodies just like ours out there in space, are there other worlds or has God really singled "us" out for His own special garden of Eden, and are we really made in His likeness? Where do we go when we die? When you have nothing better to talk about, you might consider some of those topics.
CommentsDad, have you seen the movie 'Children of Men' I reccommend it. We saw it last night. Intense and deep.
CommentsThank you Kurt for recognizing what a miracle life really is. If Bea Husler had turned me down, none of this would have been possible. A little three letters made the difference in all of our lives. Is there any one who thinks that one person does not make a difference? Or that words don't mean things? Life is truely GREAT!
CommentsLife is truly a miracle dad. Thanks for scattering your seed and producing some of my most farovite humans!
CommentsU-tube is awesome. I love to see pretty girls. Problem is, at my age, what can I do about it? huh?Another week is over and it is Friday night and we are not going clubbing. SOS for us. But that is fun also. When one already has their very special date, going out and getting drunk is old stuff. When I am in bed with my love, I think..she is different from me. She is a woman and she is spedial. She has been my lover for over half a century. Somehow we have survived so much. We have lived through a Depression. WE have lived through WW2 and the cold war and the Korean War and Vietnam. We have survived so many separations. We have seen our parents die and our friends die and we have gone through four kids and their teen years and their trials and tribulations and oh so much much more that I will not add here. We have nine grandchildren and we are over 76 years old and we have serious health problems. So, going out tonight is small stuff. Best of all, we still love each other and hope to go on till the very end. How about that? We deserve a Distinguished Service Medal. Have a great weekend!!
CommentsThanks Kurt for showing me (once again) on doing things on the computer. I am still confused about how to see the photo that were recent but I don't think we down loaded them off the camera. I will see if I can see how to do it. I just thought about that. I delete most of the pictures I had on there as I have used them in the books and have not need for the ones I did not use. Just my way of doing things. Hope everyone is having a good week and not paying any attention to the cold weather. It will be hot soon enough. Love and Hugs
CommentsHappy seventeenth birthday! We remember when your Dad came to us and announced that we were going to be grandparents. I can't believe that the years have passed by so quickly. I hope we are around when you graduate from college. That is asking a lot but miracles do happen. I look forward to having you over to interview me and I am eager to hear you play your guitar. Love Always Grandpa

CommentsIt was fun to get away as a family to Pensacola. Amber did well at her meet and the boys had fun fishing. I hope everyone is having a good holiday weekend.
CommentsGreat pictures of Pensacola! What a fun town. Mama and I have spent some great times there. Glad to have you all back in one piece. Nothing new or exciting over the weekend. Hope to see you soon. I miss your calls on your way home.
CommentsWE ARE PART OF THE FOREST Once I lived in the forest, With the trees all around. While the wind in the willows, Makes a sad mournful sound. The trees send a message, In their whispering sighs, That tells us an old story, How life begins and then dies. When a monarch of the forest, Comes crashing to the ground, Does anyone notice? Is there even a sound? Someday, we’ll be part of the forest, Our bodies will mold in the ground. And no one will notice, That we are no longer around. By Joseph R Bowman 8 April, 2001
CommentsHappy birthday amber.Have a wonderfull day.
Commentshappy birthday Amber!!!You will never be as young again. Enjoy every minute of it for it is your life and it is fleeting. Tempus fugit. You have the talent and the focus and especially, the beauty. Go for it!! Always, your Grandpa

CommentsHappiness is meeeting our Christy and Amber at Public's on Sunday morning. Life is great!!!
CommentsHunter is going to get that car? haha. Don't hold your breath Hunter. You can drive it but....
CommentsHey Goldminer!- Many are still searching for their personal gold mine. Others will never find it.. but are wandering around in the sagebrush of life. A very few have already found it. (unfortunately, many do not know it) Which are you?
CommentsBon Voyage, Derek! May God be with you. We will be with you always in our hearts and minds until you return. You are our hero and our flag flies proudly for you. May you have calm winds and may you have a following sea. Semper Fi! Love, Dad
CommentsFirst rule of survival: Pack your own parachute!
CommentsI think we are all like grains of sand on the beach. From a few feet up, we all look alike. But,the closer you get to us, we are all different. I think there is a special message to that. The closer we get to eachother, the more we see how special we are. Unfortunately, I fear that most of us go through life not getting close to anyone. Hence, few people know us and we do not know them. In my humble opinion, we are all searching for love. But most of us miss the mark. We are too hard to please. We are looking for the perfect human, not realizing that we are not perfect ourselves. What a pitty!

CommentsKurt I love your first day of the year saying. I plan to use it to others. LOve you and hope to be seeing you soon. Mama
CommentsOver the weekend, Mama and I watched the funeral ceremony of President Ford. There never was a more evident example of greatness. The glowing words of great men prove more than anything else that "we" are only great in our own minds and perhaps in small part, in the hearts of those who may love us. We are mearly small fish in a small pond. Whereas President Ford was a giant fish in a giant pond.
CommentsWe went with the Shipley's to "The Property" where Kim, Heather and Lauren served us a delicious lunch. Kim prepared a cod fish soup that tasted good and we all sat around the table and told war stories about the good old days. Lots of fun and comradship. It is the best of times to enjoy our adult kids and especially Lauren who is now really so much fun to be with. A good time was had by all. So that was our New Year's day. I hope the rest of the year is nice.
CommentsHappy New Year to all and to all I hope only happy and fun things will happen for you. I love you all and feel great to have a wonderful family and friends. I hope all of you will take care of yourself and also each other. I am looking forward to the year 2007 and know that we will handle all the siturations and challenges that are headed our way. Kathy I think it is great that you check on all of us on actnut and thank you for standing in touch. Love Love Love.
CommentsHAPPY NEW YEAR TO ALL THE FAMILY. Mama and I look forward to the new year. 06 was great with all of our get- togethers. We pray for Derek's safety and for our good health and good fortune. My resolution is to stay alive. If I can do that I consider myself lucky. If I can just stay alive, I wish for good health. Next, I wish for the good health of my dearest wife. And finally, I wish for good heath of all of the family. If by some stroke of luck, we can have all that, 07 will be as great as last year. I love you and look forward to seeing you all soon.
