DISRESPECT AND TACTLESS: When I was young, my parents taught me manners. One of the things I learned was to respect others. Tact was a part of my training. I learned that it was wrong to say things that would hurt others. That was because most of the people I knew were those I loved. And so I instinctively knew it was wrong to say and do hurtful things. I learned to respect my family and my elders. As I got older, that extended to people I did not know. Strangers were all entitled to respect. However, I believe that it is a different world that we live in today. I frequently hear and see kids show disrespect for their parents and their elders. And, that disrespect often extends to strangers. Worst of all, I see that parents do not correct their kids. I also hear and see adults who are disrespectful to those around them. I wonder if those people have ever been taught manners by their parents. I would not have dared to treat people like I see being done everywhere these days. What has happened to our society? I fear it will get worse. What is the outcome? What do you think? Do you know any one who is tactless? Being tactful is saying, and or doing the right thing, so as not to cause offense. It is the parent’s job to teach their kids to be tactful. When you meet an adult who is thought to be educated and well mannered, yet they are still tactless, they have not been taught properly by their parents. Perhaps the parents are not tactful themselves. Children do not intuitively know how to be tactful. I repeat, they must be taught by their parents, and it takes some time to accomplish in most cases. A tactless child might tell their Mom that her new dress is ugly. Or that a relative is ugly, or fat. It is even worse when the kid says that to the person’s face. It may be true, but that is the opinion of the beholder. Saying tactless things to others maybe warranted. But the tactless person will pay a price. As we grow up, we learn that it is not proper to be tactless toward others. It is “good manners” to be tactful. A tactless adult might say, “Bull crap!” or worse, to an elder if they happen to disagree with them. A tactless person is not cultured and most people avoid them. The way to handle tactlessness, if they are children, correct them, (even if they are not your kids). If they are tactless adults, just ignore them. Sometimes it is appropriate to be tactless. But that is when the person intends to hurt the other person by being tactless. And they will pay a price for their action. By the way, I still hold the door for people and stand when an elder enters the room. I even say,” Thank you, mam .” to sales clerks at Wal- Mart and to friendly nurses at the hospital. I must admit that I have sometimes been tactless. In most cases, it has been a stupid act, and I can tell you that I have paid the price. Get the picture?

I know how much Jim Moran ment to you. He was your first mentor and I know that he had a great influence on you in so many ways. What is death? and what is life? How will we be remembered afterward? Most of us are like ships plowing through the water. After we have passed, the water is just the same as before. Which one of us does not ponder on our mortality? We will live on briefly in the memory of others, and then someday, we will be just another picture in a photo album. But for now, Jim Moran was a great man and he has left much behind him. I love you Kurt! Always, your only Dd

priceless! Every time I look at the archives I am so impressed. It is taking a trip back into yesteryear. Where are those young adults who have no worries? (haha) where are those little babies now? Grown up!... and not too much longer, they will be out in the world earning their own living and making the same stupid mistakes that we all did. Kurt you have created a masterpiece. I am so proud of you. Today, you visited us and you stayed for almost half an hour. No never mind, it was all quality and we loved every moment of it.

Do you know anyone who is quiet most of the time and hard to communicate with? Do they just sit quietly while others do the talking? Do they seem disinterested in the conversation and what is going on around them? Do they speak in a monotone? Do they not maintain eye contact with you? Are you getting the picture? BEWARE of people who say nothing, for they might have nothing to say. (old Chinese proverb) Could these signs be indications of a potential mass killer? or just a boring person

The President has ordered the Flags on all Federal buildings to be flown at half staff until Sunday. I presume that is to honor the memories of the 32 students at Va. Tech who were killed by some crazy gook. Well, what is going to be done to honor the over three thousand Americans who have given their lives for their country? What an insult.

BORN TO RIDE Well, I’m up every morning, Gettin’ ready for my ride. Then I put on my helmet, Let the road be my guide. Now, I put on my goggles, Put my gauntlets on my hands. I’m ready to ride my cycle, That’s when I feel real grand. Then I walk around my cycle, To make sure that it’s OK. So I swing up onto the saddle, “Good bye, Hon!” is all that I’ll say. So then I turn on the ignition, And I pull out the choke. Then I fire up my cycle, And listen closely to the stroke. Then I stop look and listen. Tramp down into first gear. At last, I’m off on my cycle, Down to the bar for a beer. Now I’m out on the highway, With the wind in my face Life is great on my cycle It’s a most beautiful place. By Joseph R Bowman 14 April 007

Dearest Family, since you have been alive, I have subjected you to a host of my memories. Some of them have been verbal, but most have been written. My memories have been about the time when I was a child. They include my life with my family and of the people and observations I knew while I was growing up. Later, my memories tell the story of how I met and married the Miss Beatrice Husler. I have told you about our life in the Army and afterward when we lived in Mt Holly. I have written to you about my life as Commandant of the Burlington Country Police Academy. Then I have written my memories of our time on the Emerald Coast. My memories are very personal. I have written how I saw life and how I observed members of our family. I don’t know how many words have been written, but my memory books are filled to the brim. I have sent most of my memories to you. Some of them should only be shared with other members of our family. You will know which ones are private. When shown to strangers, one remarked, “Incredible!” Perhaps they are for not many commen men write the volumes of their life’s experiences that I have. But, what did that mean? Look it up and see what you think. There are other memories that I have written that I have not, and will not share with you, Perhaps, after I am gone you may read some of them and perhaps they you may see me as a different person than you knew. We are all enigma. But mostly, you have seen what you got. I am what and who I am. Love, your only Dad

Dearest Family, So many of those we knew are dead or dying. Or even worse, they are in "la la land". It is like combat. You see those around you getting killed and you wonder, "When is it my turn?" Some times one even wishes that it would happen to get over the suspense. Mama and I are old, you know how that feels? But, we go on and you may think we are permanent fixtures in this world. But we know that somewhere out there, there is the "Grim Reaper" and death is waiting for us also. When I ride my bike, I always remind myself that death.. or even worse is possible. It makes me super-sensitive. It makes me even more aware. It makes me ever watchful. But the pleasure of riding and the knowledge of danger is what drives me on. So know, your parents are old and that we are not permant fixtures. We enjoy every second of life. We enjoy your presence. We live for your calls and your visits... if even for a few minutes. We know that you are busy and that you have your life to live and that you have a family that you must care for. So we appreciate you more than you will ever know. Thank you for being our children. Don't look for misspelled words or incorrect grammar.. it is the message that counts. And if you can't or don't understand what we are saying, call us. Love Dad

Way back, long before you were born, the United States almost lost a war. It took Pearl Harbor to wake us up. When the Japs (they make Toyota’s these days) attacked the Philippines, America was un- prepared. There was the same stupid mentality in the USA as there is today. We had the oceans to protect us. We were not interested in what was going on outside our country. We had not learned the lessons of WW 1. America slept. But back to Bataan, after being abandoned by America and defeated by the Japs, about 75000 Americans went on what is now called the Bataan Death March. The survivors will never forget it. That is, those who survived. That was one of the lessons we forgot from WW2. There was another wake- up call back on 911. But many Americans have forgotten that lesson also. Now, if anyone thinks what the democrats are doing today is smart and right, ask a survivor of the Death March. Almost all are dead now, but I used to know a survivor, and he told me about the horrors he experienced. Or better yet, Goggle the Death March and read about it. Most have never learned the lessons of history. I am certain that the democrats have never learned the lessons of history. I do not only blame the democrat leaders, I blame anyone, yes anyone, who voted for a democrat on the last election. What do you need to get smart? History can and my repeat itself.

There are roughly five billion humans here on earth today. If you give each of them a square yard to walk around in, they could all stand in the state of Delaware. (One of the smallest states in the union). Does anyone in their right mind think they could destroy the earth with hydrocarbons? Two decades ago the libs were concerned that global freezing would destroy the world in a decade. People sold all their goods and went out into the wilderness and waited for the end. Now, that is what liberalism is.

HAPPY EASTER.I wonder how many people know or care what this day means. To me, it is the most important day in our lives. The message that Easter sends to each of us is one that deserves special attention. It cannot and it should not be tossed off in a few words. So, I will not attempt to do it. It takes a lifetime to recall and study and examine. And meer mortal words are not up to the attempt. I do not have the eloquence of language to express it all. So, I say to you who may stumble into the guest book, HAPPY EASTER

Look at the picture. Once we were tall and you were small. We told you what to do. Now you tell us what to do. Once you were our baby and then our little boy. Now we are so weak and sometimes unable to help ourselves. And then you come to us and take our hand and lead us onward. Now we shrink and you are tall and powerful. But, such is life. But we will always be your parents. Until the very end. Someday you will remember us and what we told you and that we set the example. And when you speak to your children and grandchildren, you may remember our words and our deeds. I love you my dearest son

It is Good Friday today. I wonder how many know what happened over 2000 thousand years ago to make this an important day. Oh how the times have changed. As I grow older, my thoughts often return to the time when my family was alive and I lived in Millersburg. I can still hear the church bells ringing to call us to celebrate the Stations of the Cross. How innocent we all were. It was before WW2 and there was no media to tell us all that we now know in a few minutes after they happen. My Mother once asked me if I didn't love my Home. In a moment of anger and stupidity that we all experience when we are young, I answered "No". I knew I had hurt my Mother and I remember her experssion when she heard my stupid response. I know better now. My Mother loved her family and when she used the word "Home" it meant "the family". If only I had the opportunity to answer differently today. But angry words cannot be reversed. Words mean things. Happy Good Friday!
