Thought of the Day

5.28

I just realized something.  For the last year I have been thinking about getting my body back into shape.  Each morning on the way to work I have planned to end the day with a rigorous workout.  Each night I have planned to wake the next day with an hour of physical training.  Bottom line.  I haven't started anything yet.  I am the worlds biggest procrastinator!  Oh well, there's always tomorrow.

Thought of the Day

5.31

I am so hard to please.  I lead a horrible existence.  No matter what success I experience it is still not good enough!  I seem to be plagued with this success/ failure complex.  Am I so deep that I can't enjoy the fruits of my labor?  I am proud for Amber.  She is driving a new TC.  Hunter is sporting a tight haircut.  Christy is a champion belly dancer.  I never thought I would ever say those words.  Weird.  I am truly blessed.

MEMORIAL DAY

Today when you go to the beach,

And you sit there in the sand, Remember all of the men who died

Defending this precious land

When you eat that extra hot dog, And order another beer,

Remember the empty chair, my friend,

And the ones who are no longer here.

They died in the snow at Valley Forge,

And froze in Korea's mud.

In the frigid air and below the sea,

They shed their hero's blood.

So don't forget, this Memorial Day,

And never forget the dead.

It is they who died for our freedom.

It was for their country that they bled.....

I love the picture of the cousins. That is what family is all about! It was a long day in the car. Even Buddy went along, but he told me it was a bore since he can't look out the RAV rear window. Come on Toyota, make a RAV that comes up to the four runner. Even still, Mama and I had fun and even got a ticket for speeding, (one damn mile over the limit) coming into the Park. Don't no buddy have no sympathy for us geezers?

Dearest Mother,

Happy Mothers Day! I am writing to you today because I sometimes forgot to say these things to you while you were alive. And so, I want to tell you again how much you meant to me. This is to thank you for everything you have done for me throughout my life. First of all, thank you for my life. For without you, there would be no me. As though that was not enough, I want to thank you for teaching me so many things. So much of what I know and how I think, is the result of your careful instruction. Moreover, watching Barbra interact with Conor makes me realize how very important a mother’s love and mentoring means. Too often, some women bear their children and then let the raising of their young to others. Not you, for you took a special interest in me. From the very beginning, you did your best to teach me. You read to me and as I grew older, you taught me to read. So, I learned from you the most important skill that a child can have and that is to read and to love to read. You taught me to love books and you introduced me to a wide range of books. You read poetry to me and then you read the Classics and taught me how to appreciate the books that we read together and how to interpret what I had read. And then as I grew older, you showed me how to appreciate the beauty and pleasure of reading. It is said that a picture is worth a thousand words. But only a book can think.

From the very beginning of my life, you introduced me to music. In addition to my Grandmother Aggie Bowman, you taught me to enjoy and interpret popular and classical music. Then you brought music into my life. You saw to it that I took piano lessons. Before long, I was playing in music recitals. All of that influence brought me one of the most enjoyable pleasures in my life. I have never forgotten the influence that music, ballet, opera, and the arts have made in my life. I still love music and playing the guitar and banjo is one of the most pleasurable pastimes in my life.

You also taught me how to write and how to express my self. You taught me how important communication is. But then, you taught me how essential it is to communicate with those we love. You showed me how to love my parents and you taught me, by your personal example. And most importantly, you taught me how to love. Yes, you showed me by personal example how to love others. Your love for your parents was the example that I have followed throughout my life. And it has influenced everything I do. You taught me how important the family is to one’s development and happiness.

And, after so many years that you have been gone, your influence has lingered on in my life. You will always be a part of me to the day that I die. The memories of you and all of the many things we shared in life together are sharper now than ever. I will never forget you, Mom. You were the most important influence in my life and my love for you will only increase as the years go by.

HAPPY MOTHER’S DAY,

Your son, Joe
