Amber and Hunter,

I loved going to Shipwreck Island yesterday, with you two. It was fun to ride and see you laugh. Next time we will hope for no rain. Wakulla Springs was awesome today. Beautiful weather and beautiful children. Thanks Amber and Hunter for going.

Another great day. Kim came to make a threshold going into the living room. Then he and I went to see the Blue PLanet at the I- Max theater. The show was awesome and we left the theater feeling rather insignificant. On our way home we stopped to see the new dolphin statue in front of the State Capitol. Life is great.

Mama and I will remember our fifty first wedding anniversary for a long long time. The love and gifts you gave us will never be forgotten. We thank you all for sharing our big day with us. Nina and Claude provided the place and made us all feel welcome. The pizza was so well enjoyed that only the the veggie pizza remained. You are great hosts and you made our day a memorable event. How lucky we are to have our family. Just being with you is worth so much. We loved the cards you sent us and will enjoy the stage shows when they come to town. We hope that you sall will enjoy many wedding anniversaries. Love Mama and Dad (grandma and grandpa)

Hello All!! Thank you for helping to celebrate Mom's and Dad's Anniversary--here is my wish that you both make it to next year in good health! Mark really enjoyed his birthday presents. At one point after everybody left he was uncertain who had taken the DVD: Clash of the Titans due to so much interest in it---Jenn you were the prime suspect along with Erik---many close seconds were mentioned. Another case of the Purloined Letter as it was next to the others:>) I highly recommend pizza parties as the clean-up is easy especially if it is all eaten. Have a great week!

Kurt: Thank you for your assistance with reformatting my computer last weekend. It is running much better and faster. Plus we haven't had crashes like before. A few lessons learned: save your "favorites" ie URLs. Nina is experiencing built in obsolensence with her Palm; dang thing won't keep her data during battery changes. Palm help desk says that happens with the cheaper models as they age. Lastly----real cool pictures of fish tank. Last lastly---Hunter, advice on football---hit low and hard.

Great pictures of Hunter and Amber. How quickly the time passes. It seems like just yesterday they were little kids starting their first day at school. (Amber was disappointed because she didn't learn to read on her first day) And now the kids are growing up and looking like big kids. Somebody slow trhe time down. Love Grandpa

Last week was another great time with Conor. Every day he learns something new. He is saying words now. He loves to read and he knows when the book is upside down. One day we watched a storm build in the north. We saw the big clouds and we heard the thunder and saw the lightening. That is quality time you know. Conor will not remember these times for he han no language yet. but if he reads Actnuts someday, he will see himself and read about the many events in his young life. He explores everywhere and everything. He is so busy that he often gets into trouble. Poor little boy, he is battered and beat from his many falls. But he is still the sweetest boy and is our pride and joy. Everyone loves Conor. To know him is to love him. Kurt, I thank you for Actnuts. It is our family's history. Perhaps some day, our descendants will look at Actnuts and wonder what kind of people lived in 2003. When they see the pictures and read the mesages, they will know more about us. Too bad that some of us are too busy to go to Actnuts every day. It takes just a few minutes. We don't read or see much of them in here but perhaps they will relax a little from time to time and drop in. Till then, I love you all, Dad

Thank you for taking the time to teach the kids to cook. They really learned a lot. Kurt and I enjoyed coming over for dinner and listening to the kids tell about what they learned from Grandpa.

We went to the King house tonight for dinner and had their spring rolls, but they did not even compare to Grandpa's.

Thanks again

What a wonderful day we had on Friday. As you know, on Thursday Amber and Hunter came over and I taught them how to make the spring roll mix. I also told them about how children of Asian families help their parents with the cooking. Then on Saturday, Amber and Hunter came again and I taught them how to roll the spring rolls. They did a great job and now I have designated Amber and Hunter as junior Chinese cheff's. When Christy and Kurt arrived, we had a sit down dinner of spring rolls, Now I ask you, can life get any better than that? It is quality time and we look forward to the next time when we will attempt a more complicated dinner. Amber and Hunter, we love you.

We have budding cooks in the family. Amber and Hunter came over today and learned how to make the "mix" that will be used in spring rolls tomorrow. They did the chopping and cooking that is necessary to make a spring rolls. They learned how Asian children are taught to cook and how many responsibilities they have. Both Amber and Hunter did an outstanding job. I had a great time and look forward to tomorrow when they will roll the spring rolls. The proof of the pudding is in the eating. Thank you Amber and Hunter. I love bonding with you. We had quality time. I love both of you. Grandpa

A long time ago, I read one of the most influential books in my lifetime. It was "How to Win Friends and Influence People." Since then, I have tried to live my life using the principles espoused by the book. Just the other day, we were in WalMart and had a problem deciding on which battery to use. Soon "Bob" the manager of the battery department happened on the scene. In a few moments he resolved the problem. He was so helpful that I told him how much I appreciated his efforts and how polite he was. I thanked him and told him he had done a great job. I went on to tell Bob that he deserved a raise and a promotion for the way he did his job. Then he told me, It would be nice to get a raise and a promotion, but he didn't think that would happen. Then he told me the greatest thing he could ask for was recognition for what he did. If you read "How to Win Friends and Influence People", you will see how to use verbal and written commendation in rewarding people who do a good job. Bob appreciated that I was impressed with how he did his job. We can all learn a lesson from that event. A few kind words of commendation when no other reward is possible,is worth a lot. Unfortunately, we often forget to thank others (some of which are those we love) for what they have done for us.

Amber, I read your message about Friday. I have been thinking about our cooking class. Doing it in one day is risky. The "mix" has to cool before we roll the spring rolls. Can you spare a few hours on Thursday so we can go get the stuff? then we can make the mix on Thursday and let it cool over night. Then on Friday we can roll the spring rolls and be ready to have them for dinner that night. Let me know about Thursday. We just need about two hours. I can pick you up at your place and take you home afterward. Will Hunter come along? I hope so. Love Ya GP

Today, Conor said his first words. It was "Bye kitty". Conor was out with Grandma on their daily walk. There were witnesses to the event. Joe and Shirley, who are our neighbors heard what Conor said and all were amazed that he said his first words at ten months of age. What a smart little boy. He loves books and wants to "read" his books many times during the day. Conor is a born shopper and lives to go to WalMart and ride the horses at the penny arcade.

Dearest Kurt, How well I know what you are going through. When you have great responsibility there is no rest. There were many times when I moved into the barracks or into some place where I kept my uniforms and TA-21 eqiuipment. I used to watch the others go home at 1700. But then, that was just the beginning of my day. Often when I did slip away for a few hours I was called to come back to work to solve some problem. Yes I know what you are going through. When I did see our children they were asleep. And once when I came home and Mama said Look Kim, "Daddy is home", Kim replied. "So what, who cares?" It wasn't his problem, he just had come to the place where he could live without his Dad (just as your family has done). But you will survive some how, just as all of us have and some day you will have a good time with Christy and we hope that when Amber and Hunter grow up, you can all have an adult relationship with them just as we have with you. I love you so very much. Hang in there. Love, Your Dad
