Pat, I have never met you but I know you through Kurt. I wish you good luck and a quick recovery. I know what you are going through. I survived and you will also.
Hunter I really enjoyed going to your chorus performance last night. You were an awesome stage hand. What a great leader!
hello amber.....here is the info for my party! when: friday, may 2 time: 5:30-9 what: a pool/sleepover where: my house
Amber, I believe it. Your smile is like the sunshine. You are beautiful. I love you.
There was a lump in my throat as I watched SP. Edgar Hernandez being feted in Alton, Texas. Alton is a tiny little village close to the Texas/Mexico border. The mayor speaks perfect Spanish and broken English. But he said the words perfectly that told the story of Hernandez. This young soldier had been thought to be dead and then was liberated in Iraq. At the ceremony, there were words like God and The United States and there were cheers from the unlookers. The family of Specialist Hernandez was there and his friends from Alton. And at times, they cheered and other at times there were tears in their eyes. Then, after being introduced by the mayor, Specialist Hernandez took the mike and he read his speech in Spanish and then in English. And he also praised God for saving his life and he reverently mentioned the United States of America. And all of a sudden it became clear that here in this little border town, people are the real Americans. They will not make the headlines. Jessy Lynch became a national hero and she will write her story and perhaps some day we will see it on TV. But the other Americans who were ambushed in Iraq, and held prisoner for a month, will slip back into their own little nich. They probably will not write a book or make a movie. But they will always be remembered as heroes by their famlily and the "just folks" of the small towns from which they came. They are the real Americans and it is they who make our country great.
Barbra and Derek, we enjoyed your party by the pool. Great food, good guests and the food was wonderful.
Grandma and I had a good time with Hunter today. I went with Hunter to Ken Po and then after eating a Public Sub, we went to the planetarium. What an awesome show! It is a class act and I recommend it to all.
Amber, I won't believe it till I see it.

I love you all.
When I was a young man, I was filled with advanced "education" and an exaggeration of my own worth and knowlege of the riddles of life. I had learned from some of my liberal professors (yes we had libs even then, back in the stone age) That there was no Jesus and no God. Like a young fool, I expressed my newly aquired knowledge to my Grandpa Ralph. Of course he was shocked and then he told me that I hadn't learned much in college. But you can't tell a kid much and I thought my Grandpa was just another uneducated old man. But then I started to change. You might even sasy I got smarter. Yes, I began to return to the religious education of my childhood. But the event that changed my life was my first experience with combat. I saw grown men cry and beg God to save them. They cried and begged God to just give them one more chance and save their life. I never heard solders, who had been in combat say that they did not believe in God. In fact it was just the opposite. I knew young and old soldiers admit that they had prayed to God to bring them through the fighting and killing. They did not call on Wicca to save them. They did not scoff at those who sought a chaplain to pray before they went into combat. So, what is all this about? During the last few weeks I have watched the POW's who have just returned home in the past few days. Everyone, admitted that they had prayed to God to save them. Moreover, their families admitted that they had also prayed to God to bring their loved one home safe and sound. So what ever the beliefs that many have concerning the presence of God, most will also change. For life has a way of bringing some pretty terrible events into their life. Many of those events are beyond the ability of us to resolve. So, when the chips are down and life becomes intollerable, people turn to God to help them survive. For, life is combat and none of us will survive.
Thank you Grandma, Easter Dinner was nice. Thank you Aunt Peg, Easter Lunch was also, nice. Thank you Meme, Saturday Dinner was good. It was a lovely Easter. Good luck Amber at your Golf Tournament tomorrow! and Hunter good luck at your baseball game.
There were tears in my eyes last night as I watched the POW's return to Fort Bliss, Texas outside of El Passo. How the crowd cheered when one of the X-POW's waved Old Glory from the top of the huge jet. I was so proud of America when I saw how the men and women of the Armed Forces won the war to overthrow the brutal regime of Saddam's Iraq. The unforgettable pictures of desert camouflaged American soldiers and Marines picking up little Iraqi children brought tears to my eyes. And how the crowds of happy people cheered and smiled in their new won freedom. But most of all I felt pride in my Country for the way most Americans supported the Troops and, yes, their mission and their Commander-in-Chief. What a difference from the way we were treated when we returned from Viet Nam. We were not victors. The war to win the hearts and minds of the Vietnamese had been lost. I still remember the last helicopter on top of the United States embassy as poor Vietnasmese who had worked for the Americans, crawled up the ladder to be air liften out of their homeland. How well I remember returning to the Unted States in the middle of the night and arriving at Travis Air Force Base. There was no welcome for us. There were crowds there, but they were not there to welcome us. Rather they were there to spit on us and revile us as we left the main gate and headed back to our homes. You see, no one loves a looser. We Americans love a winner. And our All Volunteer Armed Force is a winner. And we proved it. The road ahead will not be easy. There will be many set backs over the next few years. There will be many scenes where Iraqi people will shout, "Yankee, Go Home!". But there will be no Saddam. If he is alive, so what! If he is dead, so what. He will never rule over Iraq again. We won. Mission completed. So, when I saw the X-POW's return, as real American heroes. I was happy for them and oh so proud to be an American.
What better way to remember good times than a family picture. Time, you thief, stand still!Great picture Kurt. Happy Easter to you and all the family.
Dad thank you for taking my baseball pictures. Are you off on Easter?

Wow, just think of it.Take a picture and send it to the webmaster and shazzam, there it is. Just another reason to click on Actnuts everyday. I just love my camera. As I go through my day, I am constantly thinking of subjects for pictures. Then I consider. How is the light? what is the background? I must admit, life is good and it just keeps getting better. I once was the one who said, "What would we do with a computer? mayby Bea could put her recipe's on a computer?" DUH! As we grow older, keep up with the latest developments. I just can't imagine life without a computer. (I call it HAL.. And now, I can't imagine life witout my digital camera. Who wants to grow old? not me!
Wow Hunter you look like a professional ball player. I like your yellow tops. Good pictures Kurt.
Life is great! How good can it get? Conor is with us and we had a nice day. Weather is pretty. Temperature is warm. I am having a ball with the digital camera. Practice makes perfect. I thought that people who are over seventy years old had nothing to look forward to but planning for their demise. WRONG! life begins every morning. I hope all of our children will be able to enjoy life as Mama and I do. What is the secret? always have something you can be thankful for. ON the weekend we saw everyone of our kids. It was quality time. In the evening, we see Barbra when she picks up Conor. Nina calls us almost every evening to bring us up to date. Kurt calls on his way home. Kim was here on Sunday and trimmed the tree and that gave us a clear TV picture. Buddy loves me. My wife was beautiful on Saturday when we attended the wonderful play, DamnYankee's (one word). Nina looked like a super model and Claude was a perfect gentleman. Beat all that if you can?

Happy birthday Hunter. Grandma and I have known you for almost eleven years. We knew you before you were born. We knew your name and we looked forward to your arrival. For many years, we enjoyed your company. I loved reading the shell book with you and going on walks with you. Now you are a big boy and we are so proud of you. We look forward to your birthday celebration. In the mean time, we wish you a happy birthday and many more to come. We love you and have great expectations for you in the future.
Michael Kelly, TAPS, Iraq, 4 April, 03. A tragic loss to the world. I have read his columns for years and never disagreed with any of them. So many today, get their news and information from TV. But, Michael Kelly, and the very few like him, add a dimention to the news that TV can and never will never replace. Michael Kelly was a giant and he will never be forgotten as long as people can read.Go to Drudge and read his column.
Christy I am sorry but I thought Joe mentioned that we took two chairs to the beach and came home with the same two chairs. I had thought that the Shipley's may have it as I remembered that Claude only came down to the beach with one. I have heard it was found so that is good. I guess I should have phone you. Oh well. Let me know if I can bring anything on Sunday. Hope all have had a good week. Love and Hugs
