23. It was a nice evening with the Shipley's. Food was good. Conversation was lively and entertaining. The movie "13 Days" reminded Mama and me of the Cuban missile crisis. On my way to Panama, when I flew close to Cuba, Cuban Migs flew unfriendly escort beside our plane. Funny how big those machineguns looked as we all stared out of the plane's window. The whole world was watching and holding their breath. If you haven't lived during the Cold War, you have no idea of what went on in peoples head. Kids practiced getting under their desks to esacpe the BOMB. People built bomb shelters in their back yard. Members of the Armed Forces were afraid that some stupid politician might make a terrible mistake. The Bowman's spent the next three years in Panama training for war. Well, we got one didn't we? Most of us went off to Viet Nam and spent the next ten thousand days in and out of South East Asia. Thank President Regan for the end of the Cold war. Get the movie its Hollywoond but it tells the story.

25. Its the last week in August. The summer has been long to some but short to others. I think we all look forward to autumn and the change in tempo and weather. I have talked to most of the grandchildren and all seem to have good teachers and interesting if not challenging courses of instrtuction. This is the time to buckle down and learn your leasons and listen to your teachers and do your home work. So, you don't have homework? Well then, make it! the deeper you get into your classes, the better off you will be when you get into the classroom. You parents, if there is no home work, assign some. Reading, arithmatic and history are just some of the many subjects that kids need to know more about. I guess all you big kids are busy. You must be for we rarely see some of you. In fact, the ones we don't see we rarely hear from either. Now that is busy. Ever hear the song, Cats in the Cradle? I guess that is the answer. Well , all of you, we are here when ever you get the chance to call or drop by. Good luck this week in whichever endeavor you are engaged in. We love you all. Mama and Dad

26. Another grand time last evening. The impromptu poolside parties are great fun. Wish all the rest could have been there. But, someone has to be on duty. Now when we think fun, we say, "Meet ya at the pool!" MJ you made the day for the girls. Morgan and Sarah wish you could have fun with them every day. Poor Buddy fell on his ass last night. He never screws up but whn he does he does it right. Poor thing he looks at me and says, how come you let me do that? No more fast balls for Buddy. He's getting old like Master Joe. Gotta treat him gentle from now on.

28. Mama and I celebrated our 49th wedding anniversary today. We visited Nina then ran around for a while and did lunch at the Rice Bowl. Then back home and we picked up Buddy and ended up at the poolside. We chatted with Sarah and had some quailty time with her, Then back home. A wonderful time. We don't need to go out on the town or to a night club. Just being together is the way we do it. Guess that is how we made it in life. Nothing fancy. Just togetherness. I love you Bea. Happy Anniversary. Next one is the big Five OH.

30. This is the big day! Happy anniversary Bea. Forty nine years ago at this time I was getting dressed to go out to see you for one last time before we met at the church. There were many thoughts running through my mind and I was excited and happy. How lucky we have been. We have survived it all. Now our kids and our grandchildren live wihthin a few miles of us. We see our daughters almost every day. Our sons call and visit us. Our grandchildren call us and come to see us. We must have done something right. 34. Good for you, Hunter. We are all proud of you. Kenpo is good for you. Discipline, exercise and goals you must work for. Good traiing for life. We all could benefit from such a regimen. Some times when I walk with Buddy in the early morning, and it is cool and the leaves are falling, I remember the good times we had together when you were just a little boy. We took walks together and talked and enjoyed the beauty of nature. You are growing up now and you may have forgotten those times, but somewhere in your memmory are the memories that will tie us together forever. I will never forget you Hunter. Never!

40. Great pictures, Kurt! Mama and I had a wonderful 49th anniversary. You all made it a memorable one. Thanks for all your outpouring of love and the great presents. Barbra and Derek, you are the hostess' with the mostest. Poolside parties are fun and family get-togethers are the best. The summer is almost over. Mornings are getting foggy. Evenings are getting cooler. The days are getting shorter. Autumn is the best time of year. Imagine gettting up some morning and putting on a sweater! Tallahassee is the place to be. Four seasons make it special. But, having you all withthin a few miles and getting with you for family outings make it better than all the rest. But it's back to work now and we hope you all have a good week Labor Day is just around the corner.

49. School has started again. It sure was a busy and fast summer but gave us all many memories. Good luck to all the Kids this school year. 52. From what I hear it has been a great and fast summer for all. I must admit it has been a busy one and there are now many memories. Today the first day of school and as usual I am behind but I did want to tell all the family that Dad and i will be available to help out anyway that we can this school year. May even hope for some sick days from a Kid that cannot be home alone. Kids let us know if there are any school events that we may be able to attend and be proud of our Grand-kids. Sarah, I am happy that you want me to meet your school bus for a few days while you are adjusting to your new school and school bus pickup and stop. I know it will be fine. 53. School days! It feels like autumn. The kids are all in school and Christy is the teacher. Parents are sad to see their little darlings march off to the school bus. Grandma and Barbra had to take Sarah to school for the school bus did not arive as scheculed. Kids are sorrry that summer has come to an end. But soon, everyone will be back into the swing of the new school year. This is a time to buckle down and get serious. Every day at school is an important one. What you learn is another building block on the way to the top. Pay attention. Take notes. Do your homework (that includes your assigned tasks around the house)If you don't have any assigned tasks, look for something! Remember, work comes first, fun second. Make good grades and remember what you have learned.

54. What an exciting weekend! Our walk in the park was great followed by Kurt and the kids meeting us at the pier overlooking the lake. But the pool party at the Roberson's was the best. Barbra and Derek hosted the event and we all had a great time by the poolside. This just might be a regular event. The Roberson's home is looking great. Everything is falling into place and we all love the pool. WOW, Barbra and Derek have it all. Family times are the best. Come back home soon, Derek. After the Marines have a "few good men" you can at least take the weekend off. Sorry you missed the fun, Christy, Kurt, Heather and Kim. Perhaps next time?

72. Exciting times. Joe was interviewed by TV Channel 6 on Wednesday before leaving the hospital and today had a phone interview with the Tallahassee Democate newspaper. Maybe FOX news will be next. All this should be a big push for Tallahassee Memmorial Regional Medical Center and for Southern Medical Group and Dr.Katopodis. Lucky for Joe that he has this special group of doctors. Lucky for us to have moved to Tallahassee. Thanks family.
